Nice stop to break up a road trip not a lot to do, but if you upgraded to a nice suite, it is very comfortable. Great place to rest up prior to hit the road again.

"Historic hotel downtown Bakersfield."

8.0

Vintage hotel. Bed comfortable. We parked our car on the street over night. No reason to pay expensive valet of $18 per night.

Only 2-3 carts to transport luggage, etc to room. Only one person working the coffee/food bar in the morning. Long wait in line then had to sit and wait more for coffee/food.

"A mixed experience"

6.0

While this is one of the nicest and priciest hotels in Bakersfield, lovely spacious rooms, good beds, clean ands comfortable with good room service with good food for a decent price, we did have some issues. There was some kind of private event/events taking place the evening we stayed, so we could hear loud, bumping music in our room until at least midnight, which interrupted our ability to get to sleep at the time were needed to. One member of our party has mobility challenges. I did not ask for a specific room when booking as I knew there were elevators so I did not worry about asking for a specific floor, We were put on the sixth floor in one of the Double Deuce rooms which was lovely and worked very well for our needs. However, when we arrived, we discovered that only one of the two elevators available to guests were working during our stay. The elevators are small - as expected for an older hotel - but with only one working elevator, check out quickly became a disaster. First, there are only three luggage carts for the entire hotel. The morning of our departure, two carts sat full of luggage for at least an hour down by the front desk while those guests were having breakfast perhaps? No staff apparently asked those guests or offered those guests an alternative to put their bags elsewhere so that other guests could use those carts. So - between the hour of 10-11am, there was ONE luggage cart available for all other guests needing to check out - while two sat full of luggage. Then, with only one small elevator in working order and due to the size of the luggage cart, only 2-4 guests could fit in the elevator with the cart per trip. Once you were able to get the use of the SINGLE luggage cart, it took a while to get it to your room in the SINGLE working elevator. Then, once you had the cart loaded, you had to wait for the single elevator to arrive and there would not be enough room for the cart. After several attempts, you eventually got an elevator that had room for the cart. However, the elevator would the stop at every floor as many other guests were also trying to leave at the same time…only to have the door open and those waiting guests discover there was no more room in the elevator. This meant lots of guests either waiting a long time OR guests having no other choice than to schelp bags down the stairs. In our case, due to mobility issues, this was not an option. So we had to wait at every stage. Meanwhile, we had called for our car to be brought around by the Valet. So our car sat for a long time taking up valuable space at the size-limited front curb while we battled to get ourselves and our belongings out of our room and downstairs. To top it all off, there was only one person at the front desk for check out during this time. The line did move quickly, but we had already spent 30-45 minutes just trying to get ourselves downstairs to check out. We ate dinner, via room service, and also had breakfast at the hotel. The food was generally good and an OK value. However at breakfast, the barista who was very busy, was making the hot drinks so hot, that our coffee tasted burnt. Since it was busy so we did not make the effort to have it remade. A mixed experience. Interactions with all the staff was very positive. The remodel is beautiful. It was very clean and comfortable. AND it’s a pretty expensive nightly rate, so the actual running of the hotel - in terms of visitor experience, especially check out — needs some reflection and adjustment.
