We found a 1 night getaway via Booking.com for this hotel, not been here before so decided to try it. The offer was for a Junior Suite with balcony & views and breakfast. We decided to book and were transferred to the Hotel booking system to complete the order. Arriving at the hotel, we were advised the booking was only for the room. I queried this as I had definitely booked two breakfasts, but was advised this was not the case so we had to pay extra for the breakfast - not a great start to our visit. The room was a good size, nice view of the racetrack and driving range. The decor is a little dated, the rotating TV stand is big and takes up a lot of space. The balcony area hadn't been cleaned for some time and had lots of bird mess & grubby marks on the handrails and ledge. The balcony seems to be for standing only as there are no chairs or table provided. We ended up using the desk chair and luggage rack with a cushion to sit outside to enjoy the lovely afternoon sunshine. Bath tap leaked each time you used it, and there some poor repairs around the mirror. However, the worst issue was the bed and pillows which were really poor. The mattress had springs and lumps that you could feel with your hands. Each time 1 of us moved in bed, so did the other as it was so bouncy. The pillows were flat, lumpy and gave no support. Neither of us had a good night, and generally my husband can sleep anywhere but even he struggled to get comfortable. After 3 hours in bed, I got up and slept on the sofa with the bath towels as a cover as this was more comfortable than the bed. I expected a better quality in a suite. The Spa was OK. Pool is smallish but warm, the jacuzzi is on a timer which didn't seem to work. A guest pushed the red button for assistance, no-one came. They pushed it again and a member of staff eventually arrived, re-set the timer and was told the button on the side of the the jacuzzi doesn't work, you have to pull the red emergency button to start it working ! A guest notice above the jacuzzi to advise how it works would be helpful. Sauna & steam room are nice, although the steam room wasn't working the following morning. Evening meal and waiting staff were all very good. The self service breakfast was also very pleasant. Sadly our stay wasn't as nice as we hoped, and we are unlikely to return again any time soon.

I was told over the phone couple of days prior to attending that I would get a room overlooking the race course but I was given a room with a view to the front of the hotel. The room was not ready when I went to check in at 2.30pm and had to wait until 3 pm.

Great hotel with golf, racing, spa, great food, rooms were clean and good standard

Breakfast started 6.30 so I missed out on eating breakfast at the property
