Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Waycross by IHG

This hotel is an embarrassment to the IHG brand. The hotel has some kind of damage that is causing incredibly bad smells to linger in more than one area. I believe the 3rd floor is completely closed as a result. The lobby, the first floor rooms, the stairwells, and the elevator are all affected as well. These smells must be causing some long term health effects to the staff and guests. We held our breath from the front door through the lobby, and on the elevator during our entire stay. It's in bad shape. The smells can best be described as mildew or mold. The one plus side was that the fourth floor smelled acceptable. There are options in the area - definitely consider one of the competitors to keep yourself and your family away from these health hazards.

The hotel has been under remodeling for the past year, we got there around 4 PM to be check in by Chelsea the rudest person I ever met, her lack of customer service skills are very noticeable, she gave us room 305 while my husband was unloading the luggage I went to the room because I felt uneasy for all the construction and dust I saw on the lobby. To my surprise just right across the elevator the floor was divided by a plastic curtain, the construction workers were drilling and the noise was unbearable, that discouraged me a lot and all the mess around. Once I open the door I went to check the bathroom just to find a piece of paper floating on the toilet! The paper on the wall was peeling too. There were dogs barking like crazy for the construction noise. I went back to the lobby and Chelsea said that all she had,I said my son was allergic and we can’t stay on a place like that. I said if my reservation could be canceled without losing my points, she on a very rude way told me to contact IHG, I said don’t do anything until I speak to customer service, since I didn’t have much signal I moved away from the building and after 15’ I was told by IHG Chelsea had canceled my reservation without my consent. I went back to talk to her and she was a total ghetto mode. I requested to speak with a GM, she called her over the phone and plenty lied to her. The GM offered to come back but the queen of rudeness said she could take care of the situation, after hung up the called I told her she could not take my points away and if she had a clean room I will agree to stay, she said at this point I don’t have anything for you and you must leave the building! I called back IGH and submit a complaint against her. This woman kept hanging up on IHG people to a point that they themselves emailed the GM complaining about her. I believe Chelsea should go to an intensive training program before being ever allowed near a hotel. The hotel will be a nice one once it’s done but in the meantime go to Hampton inn right next door where you will be feel truly comfortable. Thankfully I was able to get my points back!

Staff should notify you when making reservations that the hotel is under a major lobby renovation. In addition, the hotel room was dirty, the carpets needed cleaning, the furniture was worn and needed cleaning, a drywall repair was done to the bathroom in room 315 and never painted and the list goes on. I have been staying here since 2008 and this hotel needs a complete redo. Really disgusting experience. Additionally, guests are required to wear masks but it is not enforced by hotel staff.

The hotel was ok. They were in the middle of renovations but did as well as they could under the circumstances. The Covid grab and go breakfast was better than some but could have been better. The rooms were as expected.

Clean, comfortable room, everything worked as advertised. Lobby area renovations were not a factor for me, but some amenities (pool?) were closed. Staff was pleasant and eager to help in any way they could.

A great Holiday Inn Express property. The staff were very nice. The lobby clean and welcoming. My room was clean. The property is located in a safe area near many local restaurants. There is plenty of free parking. I will stay again

We overnighted here on our way to Atlanta. Located on the main Highway 23. We had a NS, King room with fridge, microwave, desk, coffee maker and chair. Decent size bathroom with tub and shower enclosure. Large room, clean and well organized. Complimentary breakfast and very nice dining area. Indoor pool. Quiet location despite being next to the highway. Several dining options within walking distance. Good stop, we used our rewards points to stay so not sure of the rates. We would stay here again.

Visited this hotel a few weeks ago for a family funeral and found the hotel to be very clean, nice updated rooms, very nice breakfast/sitting area with all the perks of a nice breakfast spread (smiles) and friendly staff on hand. Everything was really nice and would recommend this hotel to others traveling through for a night cap or a few days. Not bad at all and in a central location with easy access to stores and restaurants.

We were here for just one night and enjoyed our brief visit. The room was ready for us and was very clean and comfortable. They provide a very good mattress. The breakfast is the usual Holiday Inn Express fare.

And when we are done we like a nice clean place to lay our heads. This hotel had friendly staff, were able to accommodate our family (we need a handicap room and have a small dog that travels with us). Both room were clean and smell free. The air conditioning worked amazing. The pool looked great, I was not able to use it. The pillows given are great. Theres soft and firm ones in the rooms. If you are traveling with a pooch there is a big grassy area out front of the hotel. And everyone seemed happy to see my little guy. There is shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower bolted to the wall. Which is great but ours was out. Not a big deal i bring my own but i know it could be an inconvenience for some. I know we will be staying here again.
