Decameron Baru - All inclusive

The Decameron Barú is set in a stunning location, and the hotel grounds themselves are quite beautiful. Unfortunately, the charm of the surroundings was not enough to make up for the serious shortcomings in service and overall management. The rooms are very simple, which wouldn’t be an issue if basic amenities worked properly. Ours had no hot water, and the Wi-Fi didn’t reach the room at all. On our last day, the door literally came out of its frame, and we had to wait for someone to fix it before we could leave for dinner. Check-in was another frustrating experience. Despite the hotel not being full, it took over an hour to get checked in because there was only one person at the front desk. The food was unremarkable at best—edible but uninspired. Desserts were disappointing, and the drinks were clearly cheap. Even though this was an all-inclusive hotel, we might have drunk 5 drinks tops. Not worth it. The breakfast buffet was just okay. Perhaps the most concerning aspect was the lack of hygiene and oversight in the dining areas. Street dogs, cats, and other animals were freely roaming the hotel restaurants—some even drinking from the same water fountains used by guests. When we raised concerns, management simply shrugged and said there was nothing they could do. The overall service culture here is severely lacking. Staff seemed indifferent at best, and many of the basic expectations of hospitality simply weren’t met. We won’t be returning, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel despite its natural beauty.

First night at Decameron Barú and already several disappointments. They charge $60,000 COP just to use the facilities if you arrive before check-in. We got our room late, in building 8 (third floor with no elevator), which is very inconvenient for those traveling with kids or strollers. The beach closes early (we were asked to leave the water at 5:50 p.m.), the pool bar was already closed, and overall, the facilities lack maintenance. The pool had dirty edges and worn tiles. The room is spacious, but the linens and towels are very old. No floor towel was provided for the shower, and the shower floor is extremely slippery. They placed a rubber mat, but honestly, I felt safer showering in flip-flops. The best part of the day was the buffet dinner with a live singer—beautiful voice and great ambiance. The staff was outstanding. Very attentive. Very polite and helpful trying to make the experience unique. The hotel itself could improve the dining experience at the restaurants. However, the service was always good. Pool hours are a little bit limited as they open at 10 AM for me as an early riser it’s a bit late but everything seems to be very clean.

Great hotel surrounded of nature, fantastic buffet service, great pools and area for kids. Snack bar is only at the beach and access is not easy. Staff was kind and easy to approach. We wish we stay there more days instead of the day pass. We enjoy it.

Mediocre food, mediocre bars. Pools stay open til 8pm but bars around the pools close 2 hours before pool closes. No champagne and cheap liquor served.

A beautiful clean friendly hotel in a stunning setting, great pools and beach area with friendly happy staff. Pools were so clean and well maintained along with seating areas. Food was great in buffet and ate in the Italian. Rooms lovely spacious and amazing views I read some of the negative comments before coming and I have to say ignore them and enjoy it I don’t know why people have given it such a low rating we had a lovely time.

One cannot expect anything better than SPECTACULAR! Their motto is to satisfy in every detail, we were accompanied by friends and family who were all Wowed by the facilities, the quality of the food, the environment, the entertainment, the pool like feel of the beach and the employees spirit; it was overall an amazing and unforgettable experience, one to repeat!
