"Bunbeg House a disappointment"

4.0

There were so many little things that were wrong here. It was quite chilly when we were there, but no heat in the room. There were lightbulbs burnt out and a reading light over the bed completely broken. When I tried to call the desk for assistance with getting the TV to work, the phone was not working. Turns out, the owners had it discontinued to save money, which meant I had to walk down two flights of stairs and ring a bell to get assistance. The TV was extremely small (maybe 19" screen) hung high on the wall where you could barely watch it. Not that it really mattered that much, becuase the channel selection was rather pitiful. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. And one complaint I have, which was one I had everywhere we went, was the use of a heavy comforter/duvet cover on the beds with no top sheet. I have to question how many times those get laundered, as it would be extremely less convenient than changing and laundering a top sheet. But it also meant sleeping under a heavy cover or no cover at all, which can get rather warm.

This hotel had a lot of unique character and the most delicious fresh seafood for dinner.

The bed configuration does not match the description on the hotels.com website. The family room consists of one double bed and one single bed and they then add a portable single bed for a 4th person. It's a bit tight. The evening meal in their restaurant was very nice and was good value. The bar is very cosy. The location is very pictoresque, right on the harbour.

"A wonderful water's edge location."

6.0

Stunning country side (especially if you drive the 'scenic' route to get to Bunbeg - take the N56 via Dunfanaghy!) Really blown away by the hotel's location - water's edge literally. Our room overlooked the slipways. Lovely people who own the hotel. Premises however are a bit on tired side, but of course the price reflects this - good (€) value. It terms of the area, we were blown away by the beaches and walks. However, the uphill walk from Bunbeg House to the village is not for the faint-hearted. The nearest evening entertainment/restaurant is SeanOg's a ten min. drive away.

This is a no-frills, family run hotel. It was very comfortable, clean, and quiet. I would recommend it to everyone without reservation.
