Residence Inn by Marriott Portsmouth Downtown

Breakfast exceeded expectations. Shops, restaurants, were in walking distance. Pool was clean. Dog friendly.

Pull out couch was not comfortable.

No housekeeping service at all unless stay at least 3 nights. No refreshing of towels or anything. Minimalist type of hotel.

Family member I was traveling with was on crutches. I called ahead to ensure there would be assistance available to assist with luggage. Upon arrival, there were no carts available and the valet wouldn’t check inside. Once inside, front desk would not help get us one. Same happened when leaving.

The construction in the lobby was annoying for both check in and breakfast. Also we had really noisy neighbors that woke us during the night.

Our stay was a disaster: 1. the hotel is being heavily refurbished and they announced with an email at the very last minute, while I could read in the lobby that the heavy work has started in March 2. Our room on the 5th floor was close to the restaurant air extraction shaft: a permanent rumbling goes on in the room night and day. It sounds like traveling in the belly of a boat. I went downstairs to complain to the lobby: first they were aware of the problem and acknowledged the issue, second they told me the hotel was fully booked and there was no alternative. I have notified the desk in the morning during the check out and it was the same two points: aware, sorry, no alternative It is one of the worst places I have ever stayed in and it was an embarrassment to drag my family in such a dodgy enterprise. A hotel with a certain level should know when *not* to book a room. Here they make a small profit but ruin their reputation. That's a disgrace
