"Private Island Oasis"

8.0

We stayed at Jicaro after touring around Nicaragua for almost 3 weeks. It was an excellent place to lay back and relax before heading home. The staff were all excellent and we felt very well cared for. There are only 9 casitas,so a maximum of 18 guests. I'm sure there were more staff than guests. The casitas are all privately situated around the periphery of the island. There is a seating area and bathroom on the lower floor with a large bedroom on the upper floor. The bed was very comfortable and mosquito nets were tucked in around the bed at turn-down each evening. There is a small porch out front with a hammock and table and chairs. It was really too small for more than one person to enjoy at a time though. The sitting area, while pleasant enough, was not particularly comfortable. The sofa was on castors and continually pushed away from the wall when you leaned back (there is no back on the sofa to lean against). The food was very good and presented very nicely. I was surprised that house wine and beer were not included as it is listed as all-inclusive. At the price of the resort I feel this really should have been included. There is a refreshing small pool attractively built into the rocks with lounge chairs on an upper and lower deck. There is also a covered lounge area with chairs.

"My two teenagers loved it!"

10.0

Fabulous- my two teenagers loved it- hotel was great and so were the meals - my kids raved about it and were eager to try many new dishes. The trips we took in the surrounding locations were great- surfing and hiking around a volcanic crater.

"Jicaro fabulous"

10.0

Romantic, visually beautiful, boutique hotel with 9 lovely casitas built on volcanic rock with no stone left unturned. Picturesque view of Nicaragua Lake with Mochado Volcano in the background. Staff and service of Aman, Four Seasons caliber at a fraction of the cost.

"Beautifully designed casitas on a private island"

10.0

I very much enjoyed my stay at Jicaro Island. The views of the lake and the nearby Volcano Mombacho we gorgeous, especially at sunset. The service was fantastic--one of the best that I have experienced in my travels. The casitas are beautifully designed and the grounds are well-maintained. The food was great. We enjoyed a buffet of typical Nicaraguan cuisine. My only complaint was that the casita tended to be too warm for me, with no AC (yes, I am spoiled!). I would not hesitate to return for a longer stay, maybe next time I will have time to try out the spa.

"Great Location, need to improve customer service"

It is a great hotel in one of the more beautiful locations in Nicaragua. Rooms are incredible nice. The only problem is the quality of the service and customer care. It needs much improvement.

"Will go again!"

8.0

Jicaro is a great opportunity to get away from it all. Very peaceful, except at around 4:30 am when the roosters start to wake up. But if you can get past that which I did, you will enjoy it to the hilt. Greeted with a wonderful punch upon making it to the island. The food was delicious. The fish of the day could of had a little more flavor but the Nicaraguan night made up for what the fish of the day did not have. The hotel staff was very accommodating to my diet of no pork or beef and made Nicaraguan chicken for me. Breakfast omelette was delicious as well as the french toast. The eco-friendly room was great and I appreciated the turn down of the bed every night and water by the bed stands. My sister and I stayed in cabana 5 and we had a great view of the lake and the hammock was an excellent way to relax. Really enjoyed seeing the many different birds and taking the kayak out. The only comment I would say is the staff could communicate a little better about transportation to and from the island re: times. We were unaware that the boat to and from the island was available all night. Grenada has a nice night scene on Saturday night that you will want to check out if you want more interaction with people. I will definitely go again and stay a longer so I can take full advantage of the relaxing benefits Jicaro has.

"Already dreaming and scheming of my return"

10.0

Normally I do not return to the same location, yet alone the same hotel, but Jicaro is a very special place. Set in an unbelievable location on an island in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. The staff is extraordinary from meeting you when you arrive, to serving you amazing food and arranging for your excursions off of the island. The casitas are simply beautiful, but you spend most of your time on the shared grounds with the noted exception of morning coffee delivered to your deck. My favorite thing to do is swim in the warm lake with the turtles. This was my second trip and I am thinking about a third.
