"A big disappointment"

4.0

We arrived at 8.30pm and was told last orders were at 8pm and the chef had gone. At 9pm in the kitchen I saw main meals being prepared. Later other guest told me they had been warned to arrive by 8.30 to eat but had got their earlier. We had some bread and chesse in our room taken from our car. There was no offer to provide us anything although we had travelled 1000km from Austria and had not eaten all day. It promises to be a quirky quaint chraming place. It totally lacked any warmth or welcome. I don't think they could be bothered to provide any customer service to us on our arrival. Next time I will not be bothered to stay at this place. I now read it has recently changed hands. Don't go is my advice there are plenty of better places to stay.

"Good"

6.0

Ideal location only 40 minutes from Calais. Great setting - an old mill. Staff friendly, little bar - didnt eat in the restaurant. Rooms ok - very basic, shower on bath tap and you had to hold it.. No wifi, no tv in room, no hair dryer.Recommend it - not for us - I expected more from an Auberge however on the plus side it does have a restaurant and a little bar.

"Excellent Small Hotel"

10.0

This was our second stay at this delightful little hotel. It is in a perfect spot, less than an hour from Calais. The surroundings are very pretty and quiet with lots of footpaths to explore. The hotel itself is quite quirky with the old mill workings taking pride of place in the lounge/bar area. The rooms themselves are quite basic but the beds are comfy and it is spotlessly clean. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. The staff made us feel very welcome and we would certainly return.

"Close to Calais but off the beaten track"

8.0

Atmospheric location in an old mill. Nice restaurant at hotel with good choice of menus. Good food in a peaceful room. BUT we were surprised to find a message on the wall next to the toilet which said paper was not to be flushed down the loo butput in the bin. If the plumbing became blocked, we were "under pain" of an unblockage fee of £150! The phrasing of the notice suggested a blockage was the customer's fault, but I think the management need to face up to their responsibility and get some decent plumbing!!

"Lovely hotel"

8.0

Fantastic hotel with a wonderful restaurant and staff. Room was excellent - absolutely no complaints. Only one criticism being that it's not the easiest place to find as hotel not in Clerques. Only signposted in one direction ie on road heading out of Clerques

"Great family break"

8.0

We booked this last minute as a cheap family break. Great location in a beautiful area and yet so close to Calais. Good sized accommodation in the Quad room, although it would benefit from a shower cubicle as well as a bath. Nice meal in the restaurant with good wine (by the carafe). Friendly and helpful owners. Only criticism would be the breakfast which I felt was overpriced for bread and cereal and no child reduction. There is a Carefour local a mile away, which is well equipped.

"nice location but lacking in some respects"

4.0

The hotel is full of character but the rooms although adequate are quite basic and their was a noticeable smell from the loo. The bath water was barely hot. One of the reasons we chose to stay was that there was a vegetarian menu. However this for some reason is 10 euros more than the standard meat menu and the main course is all fish, which my wife doesn't eat. This was a big birthday treat for her so we were somewhat disappointed. She asked to have one of the starters for a main (pumkin tart) and the hotel was very accommodating but still charged the full 27.50 euro price, which was a lot for what she had and particularly in comparison with my meal.

"better for a summer stay."

6.0

The room was freezing on this v cold October night - there was no double glazing on the 2 very large metal framed windows overlooking the water/weir. Would be lovely in the summer. The very loud noise of the water gushing outside might cause a difficulty sleeping for some people but I found it charming. The central heating was not on even though it was cold - but I found a portable electric radiator in the wardrobe and put that on. Needed 2 duvets on to keep warm. Big gap under entry door into room. Other guests in the lounge area just below the stairway outside my room (all open plan) - were very noisy until midnight. WIFI did not work in the room nor in the communal areas. Lounge area had wood burner lit and was quite cosy. Did not eat here but the menu seemed quite good. I would go again, but at a warmer time of year. Service was OK. I was not asked if I would like a drink or anything to eat, even when I was sitting for quite a long while in the lounge area. There was a bar, but no one behind it. There is a bell to ring in the lounge area if you require any service. Overall, OK, and nice in the summer.

"quiet, rural retreat"

8.0

A charming and rural hotel in beautiful surroundings. Rooms basic, no TV or kettle, but clean and comfortable. Food in the restaurant was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by adults and kids alike. A good base to strike out from as no other amenities close by. The owners were charming and friendly and we enjoyed our stay enough to revisit next year.
