"Rossmount preoccupied with dining room, not hotel"

4.0

What a poor attitude of Rossmount Inn staff, on check-in, to be berated for not having made a dinner reservation 1-2 months (sic) in advance, which they claimed everyone does. No problem though, in making a hotel reservation only a few days in advance. We were informed we could have a drink in their bar, how generous, and then go somewhere else to eat. On asking, "can we eat in the bar too," the answer was an imperious "No, we don't do that." Not very reasonable for a hotel/inn to encourage their own paying guests to start the evening by drinking at their place before driving off to another to eat. This is 2016 ! The room itself, very poor, very cramped, with a bathroom retrofitted into the room (leaving a small L-shaped space to cram in a bed and 2 chairs). As to the bathroom, a small bathtub on legs, no support rails, a weird 360degree plastic curtain, junk quality hardware, with my wish for good luck to anyone with any balance or mobility problems. I'll not be going back to this pretentious but over-rated location.

"A step back in time."

8.0

A very elegant hotel. Lots of antiquity and history. Restaurant features a fine menu. The grounds are well groomed. Nice outdoor pool. The hotel does not have an elevator, much needed. Climbing the stairs to the second floor will wind most seniors.

"Victorian Inn and dining room"

Our room was exceptional, clean pleasing linens if somewhat small. All amenities, wifi, tv, etc available at no extra cost. Staff are most obliging and attentive.

"Nice older style hotel"

6.0

I love antiques, so I enjoyed the inn. The kids didn't. Upon arrival, we were told that they were fully booked for dinner but st Andrews was only a short drive away. We would have liked to have been able to sit on the porch or enjoy a swim before dinner. But back in the car we got. Too bad, they don't reserve a few tables for guests. It is supposed to be very good.

We very much enjoyed everything about the inn, except the following: we were surprised, given the price of the rooms, that they charged extra for breakfast, at a time when most places are including breakfast in the cost. Also we were taken aback at the presumption of adding 15% gratuity to the bill.
