Auberge de la RivIère

We have stayed here a number of times and like it so much that on this trip we made sure our journey took us here twice! The rooms are simple but comfy and the location of the hotel is great as it is alongside the river with lovely paths for walking and cycling. It is quiet and peaceful. The restaurant is an outstanding experience, beautiful food and really good service.

The location was superb. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The meal was absolutely excellent quality. The best we have eaten in France.

Nothing to dislike

Your GPS will guide you to a charming riverside location, conveniently close to the Autoroute. The river is “La Vendée” which also describes the region. The WiFi is free, you can find updated menus and facilities there. The breakfast was a very well presented serve yourself buffet. All the food was to a very high standard and the croissants as good as you can find in Paris, just don’t tell the Parisians that. The dinner “à la carte menu” was very interesting and we found plenty of interesting dishes to try. The visual presentation of each dish was very “soignée”. I do not know if all the wines are on the wine list, the waiter did a very good job in suggesting just what we needed to accommodate our menu choices and our tastes. The apéritif menu listed the champagnes that most readers will know well, we decided to try “Coupe Pétillant” on the basis that we did not know it. The waiter told us that we would enjoy it, he was right.

Maybe a choice of a lighter summer weight duvet, mine was a little too warm and heavy for the weather.

Exceptional cooking, it deserves a Michelin star. Delicious breakfast with lots of local and homemade produce.

Lovely clean, spacious room, overlooking the river. Quiet location with parking. Helpful staff who were on hand to help when we turned up early for check in with an overheated dog and let us in early so we could get him cooled down and comfortable. Nice food in the restaurant and good selection of wines.

Would have liked a proper shower as opposed to one that you need to sit in the bath to use, but to be honest that's the only thing I can say we didn't like and it really didn't bother us too much!

A lovely room opening out on to our own patch by the river. Food was excellent and served at a good pace. Our hosts were most welcoming and attentive.Breakfast was ample and there was a good selection. A quite break away.

Wonderful riverside location. Quiet, well-appointed room, with good shower room. Fantastic dinner took 2.5 hours! Friendly, relaxed chef and staff. Breakfast was also exceptional in choice and quality.

Nothing! Some might say the food was a little sweet.
