Chelsea Park Motor Lodge Nelson

We enjoyed a very nice 3-night stay in a king studio room. This is a classic small business motel in New Zealand, with excellent delivery of the lodging. It has apparently changed owners in past few months, and the new owner hasn’t missed a beat. Same great standards we read about in Trip Advisor are still there now. For context, we traveled with two large suitcases for a several-week trip to Australia and New Zealand. This shaped our view of room sizes and bathroom counter space. Things we liked: - Clean, comfortable, nicely decorated room. Well-equipped with mini-fridge, microwave, and some kitchenware. - Enough room for our gear. While bathroom counter space is tight, the kitchen is immediately out the door with much more counter space. - Friendly owner. Very helpful with recommendations. In addition, he stored our bags overnight when we made a trip to Abel Tasman NP. This was super helpful to us, and a great service. - Very central location. About 2 blocks to downtown. - We rented bikes from the motel for $25 NZD/day. There is a dedicated bike path to Richmond (~12 km) and beyond. Other notes: - As a 20ish room, small motel they operate with the business model of reception being manned about 0700-1900. - Free parking. Some spaces are reasonable sized spaces for an SUV. If one of those isn’t available, there is free street parking within a block. - There is not a safe in the room. - The rooms use standard keys. There is an additional security latch from the inside. - Rooms are not air conditioned. We found the room cooled quickly by opening the sliding door on one side and the front door on the other. Our guess is Nelson rarely demands AC with the windows open. All told, among the best small-business hotels of our trip.

Good size rooms walking distance to restaurant district. Very graciously stored our luggage while we hiked the Abel Tasman Trail.

Here for the Vintage Car Festival and stayed 9 nights. When our ferry was cancelled, yet again, they accommodated us beautifully. Allowed the guys to clean or work on their cars and very friendly staff. We would like to acknowledge Vicky for her care when we were stranded on the wharf in Wellington, for her compassion and her friendliness throughout her stay. Thank you Chelsea Park Motel! So close to town, we walked for meals and easy access in and out.

Our 3rd time with your motor lodge as so good. Spacious, clean, very comfortable, great kitchen facilities, environmentally aware and very friendly and helpful owners and staff. Good location to town.

Kerry and team went above and beyond to ensure our stay was exceptional. Kerry and his team's vast local knowledge gave us a great opportunity to ensure we saw the best of Nelson . Highly recommend. Well be back
