Chelsea Park is such a quality and value combo at a great location. The owner and the staff are so welcoming, I am looking forward to staying here next time I am in and around Nelson. Highly recommend Chelsea Park.

We stayed at Chelsea Park Motor Lodge for five nights with my wife and our seven-year-old son as part of a slow road trip around New Zealand, and it turned out to be exactly what we needed. Carey met us on arrival and immediately put us at ease. Very friendly, very relaxed, and with a great sense of humour — the kind of host who actually enjoys people turning up rather than just handing over keys. He showed us around, explained how everything worked, and gave us a few local tips that ended up shaping most of our stay. He clearly knows Nelson inside out. The room was spotless and comfortable, and the bed was excellent — always a good sign when you sleep well away from home. Travelling with a child, we really appreciated having a kitchenette. It made mornings easy and meant we could throw together lunches and picnic food rather than eating out for every single meal (which both the wallet and the child appreciated). One of the big wins for us was the location. It’s genuinely central. Once we arrived, we hardly used the car at all. We hired bikes and got around that way most days, walked into town for coffee and food, and generally felt like we could relax rather than constantly planning logistics. Our son had a great time. We spent a lot of time at Tahunanui Beach, which is perfect for kids, and we loved wandering around the Nelson Saturday Market. The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary was a hit as well — birds, nature, fresh air, and something a bit different. We also cycled sections of the Great Taste Trail, which was easygoing and very scenic. We did a day trip to Abel Tasman National Park, which was absolutely beautiful. Kayaking, clear water, golden beaches — the full postcard experience. It was nice knowing we could come back afterwards to somewhere comfortable and quiet. A small but handy bonus: we were travelling in a hired Tesla, and there’s EV charging on site, which made life easy. In reality, we barely needed it, as we weren’t driving much anyway. Overall, Chelsea Park is a really solid choice if you want somewhere affordable, comfortable, family-friendly, and run by someone who genuinely cares. Carey strikes the right balance — helpful without hovering, knowledgeable without lecturing, and clearly proud of the place. We left feeling rested and happy, which is pretty much the goal of any holiday. Would happily stay again if we’re back in Nelson.

Helpful staff - nothing was a problem. Unit was clean on tidy. The breakfast was delicious and it was great to be able to wake and have breakfast already sorted.
