"Budget Option for Miraflores District"

6.0

The Hotel Esperanza is located in Miraflores, the main tourist district in Lima. It's about a five minute walk from one of the Airport Express bus stops (and also a short distance to the Ricardo Palma Metropolitano stop). The room was good sized, and the bathroom, while narrow, was clean. Hot water and free fast wifi was good. The breakfast had a good mix of items, including scrambled eggs on request. A lot of the rooms, including mine, had windows that opened out onto internal stairwells. While the windows had grates for security, there wasn't a lot of privacy if you had the blinds up. Also, the interior brick wall decor was not to my taste and, combined with the minimal lighting, made the rooms pretty dim. The front gate also was acting up and could have used a repair.

"Great location, good price for location"

8.0

I went to Lima with a friend, very last minute, to watch the final game of Libertadores de America soccer tournament. The final was on Saturday, 23rd of November and our airfare was from Wednesday night to Sunday very late in the evening). By the time tickets were released to the actual event, I only had 7 days to book a hotel and the prices were crazy expensive and very few options available. Even Airbnb had almost nothing available. I was recommended to stay in Miraflores district as being the most touristic (and safe) area in Lima, so I concentrated my search there. Esperanza hotel had an OK price for that week and offered free breakfast which was important for us. The reviews were OK too (not great) but NOT a lot of them on TripAdvisor. Below is my feedback after the 4 nights. PROS: - Amazing location: we could go and come back to John Kennedy park (and all restaurants and stores around it) in 3 to 5 minutes and the beautiful Larcomar shopping center in 20 to 25 minutes. I never felt unsafe walking around there. - Breakfast: simple but efficient. Every morning, we had 2 types of fresh juice (pineapple, papaya, melon and orange), eggs, bread, ham, cheese, yogurt and coffee. It was enough to get us going until late in the day. The guy working the breakfast worked hard, doing everything himself (replenishing items, washing dishes, cooking eggs, etc) - staff: only the day time receptionist (Orielle) spoke English but they are all nice and willing to help. We were able to do a late check-out which was awesome allowing us to take a shower closer to the trip to the airport. If that's not available (due to the room being booked for new reservations), they can keep your luggage if you want to roam around until taking the transportation back to the airport. - wifi: it worked very well for us. It helped that the router on our floor was right beside our door. - security: you need to buzz in reception to enter the hotel. They have cameras as well. We never felt unsafe there. CONS: - room: the room we stayed (417) was extremely small and it had a window to the stairs of the hotel. Anyone could see you in the room from the stairs (less than one meter away from the window), unless you lowered the curtains. Ours was extremely small but we were not there to stay in the room, so it didn't bother us. The washroom was renovated, but also super small. I can't comment on room service since we asked not to take place. We exchanged our towels at reception once during our stay, no problems. Shampoo and conditioner are not provided, only a soap bar. Bring yours or buy there. They also had an air freshener in the room that sprayed a not so great mist every 10 minutes or so. We removed ours from the wall and put it back at the end. - no fridge in the room. Only on the third day, we learned they have a shared (regular sized) fridge on the first floor for the guests. We left beer, pop and water there and it wasn't touched by anyone. - elevator. It wasn't working when we checked in at 3:00 AM and we had to take our luggage using the stairs. Elevator needs to be reprogrammed. It always stops on the 3rd floor when you're going down. A few times, it was not working during the trip. TIPS: - if you're doing alone, use Airport express Lima service/bus. Google them for service. They stop 400 meters from the hotel and costs 25 soles per person. If you're going with at least one other person, UBER is a better option. The airport gives you 15 minutes of free wifi (so you can call UBER) and the hotel also has free wifi. - I would recommend La Lucha Sangucheria, right in front of Kenndy Park. Great sandwiches and fries at a reasonable price. We also ate at the fancier Alfresco restaurant and had an amazing meal there. I'll leave reviews for both places. - for Brazilian folks, they do have TV Globo available on channel 804, which was nice to watch at night time before going to bed. - make sure to have one (or two, three, four or more ) churros at Manolo, 7-minute walk from the hotel. They are in business since 1968. SOOO good!!!! Would I go back to Esperanza Hotel? If I went by myself or with a friend, I would probably go. With kids or even with my wife, I would for sure choose another hotel. It's an extremely simple hotel without pool or any type of entertainment. The location is amazing though for single travelers or young couples that only need a safe and cheap place to stay. By the way, our team won the tournament, so that made the trip 10 times better :)

"Value for money"

6.0

Older hotel in Miraflores. Airport Express stop is only 3 blocks away, 5 minutes walking distance to the hotel. It is safe in the area even staying up into midnight. Restaurants and attractions are within walking distance. Breakfast is free and simple but good quality. furniture a bit old. Staff is friendly. Good security.

"Got my car towed after being told to park there by the front desk clerk"

2.0

I just returned from my 2 week trip to Peru. I rented my own car and on my 1st night in Peru I booked 1 night here. It was a bit difficult to find, but found it after a second time around the block. I parked directly in front of the front door and looked for a way in. I waited for the employee to answer the buzzer and went inside. After he secured my reservation I asked where I should park and pointed to the car DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE HOTEL IN THE ONLY SPOT. I asked if that was a good spot (both in Spanish and English), he said "yes". In the morning I went outside and my car was gone. The new front desk clerk didn't seem to understand what I was talking about when I mentioned my car being gone/towed, even though they had just towed the car an hour earlier. The car was clearly visible from the front desk and from the many security cameras pointed at the street. The woman at the front desk helped me get directions to the local government office to get my car. After 3 hours of total headache and $200usd I got my car and started my trip. I returned to the hotel and asked why the man at the front desk would tell me to park there if it was a "No Parking Zone". (DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE FRONT DOOR OF THE HOTEL). She said they talked to him and he said that he didn't say that. She then asked me to pay $35usd for my room and offered no condolences. Not only is the place a dump and not worth $35, but it was obvious that they were working with the towing company to get a piece of the fine. Parking is a very common topic to ask about at a hotel. And the fact that the car was 10ft from the front door and clearly visible through the window and the front door is a clear indicator that this was a local scam. Spend your time and money somewhere else.

"DECEPÇÃO"

6.0

Eu paguei minha estadia, duas vezes!!
