Huab Lodge

Huab lodge is one of those places that will stay in your memory for a long time. The drive to it is a bit off the beaten track, through gates and over a few small dry river beds. But once there, gosh! Peace. Except for the birds, the insects, Deon and Lidia's welcome, this is the life! Then the rooms. Glorious. No frilly gold plated stuff. Don't expect bling. Just comfort. Great views, spacious, great bathrooms. This is an ecolodge so no hairdriers or aircon. But they are not needed. Relax. Great food, proper hospitality, the night sky... worth it for nightjars and stars alone. And then the desert elephant safaris... just go there.

Sad that we can't go there every month, or even every year. Seriously. This is a treat. To savour. Isolated but not remote. You are a discoverer of a remote part of Namibia, but with nice wine! But the desert adapted elephants need tourism. Or they get shot.

The lodge is nestled in a beautiful, serene, and remote location that offers the perfect escape for relaxation. The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every guest feel at home. I was especially touched by the thoughtful gesture of baking a cake to celebrate my birthday. It made my stay even more special. Thank you to Lidia and your team.❤️

The rooms might need a bit of an upgrade although everything is still functional.

Such an amazing location, super quiet with stunning views. Rooms beautifully furnished with gorgeous view of river bed. Owners so very lovely and really knowledgeable. Diet such an elephant whisperer, finding the clever elephants on our tour. Canyon so very beautiful and wonderful food too.

The remoteness. Kind and hard trying owners, very flexible. African atmosphere with small difficulties fitting the isolated location. The joint dinner.

The price. For half the current fee it would have been value for money

Wow, this was a really great experience! It's a beautiful lodge, very deep into nature. We did the day into the riverbed to spot desert-adapted elephants. Ut was such a great experience! It started with: "It's 200km of nature from here to the ocean". We were lucky to find elephants, but also enjoyed the trip and surroundings very much, and the way the owner took us along everything he knows about the valley. Very much worth the trip! On a totally different level, we had some car problems with the battery. They owner plus the maintenance manager of the property fixed everything: "No worries, you guys have vacation, we'll fix it, you will be able to drive again tomorrow". Next morning, they had found that both our batteries were dead and had replaced it with a spare one from the owners car! Also good to mention, all the staff is great, and we had lovely meals. As one of the staff members said: "I like to work here, it's not a place where they want to make profits, everything is put back into preserving the elephants ", and that is how it felt very much for us.

Huab was great - very remote and felt like a lovely retreat in an already fabulous holiday. The food was really great and in the morning had a great filling omelette too. There is a nice family feel around dinner as you sit with other guests and all join in together. Normally we wouldn’t go for this on a holiday (looking for peace and quiet!) but on a Namibian road trip it was actually quite nice to have a social sojourn squeezed in between all the solitude! Room was also really nice.

The WiFi struggled even in the main area and there is absolutely no signal (latter not their fault) - meant we had a tricky time planning our next leg. More mosquitos than anywhere else we stayed and the mosquito nets had lots of holes in them - meant we had to douse the place in repellent.

We stayed in a lot of great places in Namibia, but this was our absolute favourite. Beautiful accommodation, stunning setting, warm and friendly service. We loved the rooms with the huge balcony, and the large communal dining/bar area. All guests (and the owners) sit together at one large sociable dinner table, the food is excellent. We also did the Desert Elephant Tour with Deon - this was a real highlight of our trip. We were lucky to find the elephants, but even if we hadn't it would have been worthwhile for the beautiful journey along the ephemeral river beds (and the lunch!). This place is very special and we will come back one day.
