Nothing to dislike

Lovely hotel, comfortable, friendly staff, beautiful furniture and decoration, a typical British atmosphere.

Breakfast was nice, as well as the friendly and smiling waiter.... but the presentation of the buffet with cereals, fruits and yoghurt did not strike me as particularly attractive....

Heated towel rail in the bathroom was hugely appreciated as clothes in our suitcases were wet from heavy rain. Charming room with authentic features. Very large bathroom. Pleasant young man who was the only staff member we really spoke to.

Room was advertised as with shower. It had a mixer attachment low down on the bath with no way to stand under it so you had to crouch and water went everywhere. A wedding was in process when we arrived which we hadn’t been warned of. Consequently it was impossible to get a cup of coffee from the bar which was off limits to us despite us asking. We were told to go back out in the rain to the village for coffee. Coffee in our room was instant and no hot chocolate powder sachet. Blind in the bathroom protecting us from everyone in the car park seeing us on the loo fell down when we tried to open the window. Wedding guests were allowed to stand smoking at the main entrance which was just under our window so we had to keep the window closed all night. Next day breakfast table was decimated by 9 am and the options were sparse for this level of hotel. The menu options arrived hot and tasty but the second day they were slightly less good. No toast was offered the first day. Second day it was limp and unappealing. When we arrived back to the hotel about 7 pm on the second day which was a Sunday there were no staff anywhere and everything was locked up with just a notice saying phone this number for assistance so once again we couldn’t get a drink from the bar and I searched the local co op in vain for any hot chocolate! The hotel really did not meet expectations. Would’ve been ok if it was £75 per night rather than £160.

Greeted pleasantly at reception, dinner reservation checked and confirmed and breakfast times explained. had to ask for wifi information. Room was nicely furnished. Dinner was very nice, staff attentive and pleasant, Food was very good.

Breakfast was very disappointing.We arrived at 9am and breakfast served until 10am so plenty of time. Buffet style but with option to order cooked breakfast. There were no bowls available for cereal, milk jug was empty, no fruit juice either ( empty carafes) and coffee almost gone. A couple of members of staff in and out clearing tables and re-setting but nobody checking that the breakfast guests were be catered for of checking the status of the buffet. Had to go and find a member of staff to ask for these items. Had to also catch the attention of staff to place a cooked breakfast order - we were not the only table to do this. Ordered eggs benedict and full english ( exl sausage) - all fine scrambled egg of toast. This was two pieces of toast , one on top of the other with egg on the top slice. The food was ok but the lack of awareness and attentiveness to ensuring the buffet was supplied was very poor. There were a number of guests at breakfast but no adequate staff or a manager/supervisor to ensure guests were taken care of. This was a Saturday morning and a bank holiday. We paid £150 for the night - two rooms so £300. I do not expect to have to chase staff to provide basic breakfast items or to be waiting so long that I have to go and find someone to take a cooked breakfast order. Very disappointed for a 4 star hotel.

Decor in room dated but everything was functional.

It was a lovely stay. All of the staff were great accept one person, the manager, I don’t think she should be in a position where she deals with general public. Very rude, couldn’t crack one smile the whole time. Not accommodating & comes across like she dislikes her job!!

The manager
