Papaya Playa Project, Tulum, a Member of Design Hotels

It was a nice surprise with the food, hospitality, ambience and food. What a great time would that again and again. The staff were also very nice explained a lot but food was so good and tasty I forgot their names 😂

This hotel was everything and more. We were greeted by Manuel. Are bags were brought promptly to the room as we were checking in. Primo, the guest manager, went over all the beautiful art and details of the hotel. They were kind enough to hold our bags until the end of the day as we had an early morning. The restaurants was amazing. We will definitely be back!. Thank you for your awesome hospitality.

We absolutely LOVED staying at Papaya Playa. Everything from the overall energy, kind staff, clean and peaceful property.. the food. We HIGHLY recommend. The only thing I would say is they could refine their process of booking activities on property once you're there. Other than that, we will return and we very much recommend this stay.

Papaya Playa Project is a very calm, spiritual, and special place. I would recommend for anyone looking for quiet, personal reflection in paradise. The resort is run properly in all aspects.

I just returned from a girls’ weekend at Papaya Playa Project and have mixed feelings — there were definite highlights, but also some surprises future guests should know about. The staff were wonderful — attentive, friendly, and quick to respond on WhatsApp for extra towels, lamps, or filtered water. Beach and poolside service were excellent, and Primo, the manager, went above and beyond helping with dinner reservations and recommendations. The welcome ceremony was lovely, and the morning yoga and final-day sound bath were great touches. The Saturday night beach party is fun for house music lovers (starts after 11 p.m.), but otherwise, the property felt quite empty — almost too quiet. Walking back to our casitas through dark, uneven jungle paths with no lights after 11 felt unsafe, and we relied on our phone flashlights. Rooms were rustic with little privacy — open showers and toilets, dim lighting, and few outlets. The property is far from the main beach zone, and taxis cost $40–50 CAD each way. There are no complementary bikes, which should really be included given the remote location and its "luxury" reputation. Considering Tulum’s wellness reputation, we were surprised there weren’t more daily offerings beyond yoga and one sound bath. Other nearby hotels offered meditation, breathwork, and other experiences, but Papaya Playa’s isolation made it hard to access those. Overall, it’s a beautiful, boho property with great staff and music, but expect a rustic, low-light, remote experience with limited comfort and wellness amenities. Tulum is a beautiful spot, but I would return to a more central location that is more lively and has more to offer, from complementary wellness activities to free bikes to explore the area. Also, it lacked any Marriott Bonvoy branding or perks.

Chill, boho-chic vibe right on the beach. Perfect for relaxing with sea, music, and cocktails. Prices are high, but the location is stunning. Great for those who love mellow parties and epic sunsets.
