"Bill made no charge for wit"

Three very comfortable nights and three superb breakfasts in homely surroundings attended by the most amiable and helpful hosts. Two minutes walk from Shanklin Chine and the High Street, with a multitude of eateries. I can recommend the shell-fish platters for two, with wine, though be prepared to diet later.

Four days exploring around Shanklin and the Isle of Wight. A friendly and clean hotel with a good breakfast cooked to order. Would thoroughly recommend it.

"Friendly hotel in great location"

The only drawback i would say is that cooked breakfast service finishes a little early at 09:15, especially when the clocks move forward and you lose an hours kip! Also I feel a 10:00 check out time is a little early, I travel extensively and an 11:00 checkout is more the norm with breakfast served until 10:00. I feel the timings are more to the benefit of the hotel owners than their guests. However, the hotel is great, very clean and nicely decorated throughout and we received a very friendly welcome from the owners.

"Great hotel and staff very close to Old Shanklin"

Excellent room, brilliant breakfast menu, run by Customer focussed couple only 2 minutes walk from Old Shanklin Village. Booked the only Standard Double available which was great value for money. Would recommend to anyone

"Fabulous place to stay"

What a find!! Everything about the Birkdale is perfect. The hosts Bill and Jackie are amazing, this was our first stay and it felt like we were staying with friends. We were visiting the island for a family funeral, and the quality of Bill and Jackies accommodation and their care and kindness to us made the visit more bearable. We will definitely return and enjoy the Birkdale again it's FABULOUS.

"Good choice to stay"

Great location, lovely hosts. Amazing Breakfast. Spotlessly clean. The only problem we had was the bed in our room. It was a little on the small side and not very comfortable.
