Hotel Mardaga

The hotel is striking. The building is anthracite coloured and after entering the theme of the reception is black. This might sound less then nice but it is done in such a way that it is striking and pleasant to enter. The room is big and the bed is good. The showerroom is also big and well designed. Still, there are some small issues. One of the doors of the shower stall is not moving smoothly and is basically stuck. And there is some black mold in the corners. The toilet is very low and can cause issues if your legs aren't as souple as they used to be. The airconditioning unit is situated in such a way that the cold air is flowing over part of the bed. Enough so that we had to switch it off before going to bed. The room was located at the back of the hotel and was quiet. At the back of the hotel there is an absolutely lovely seating area, part of it heated. It was a wonderful place to spend the afternoon. The big dissapointment was that the restaurant is closed on sundays and mondays. A hotel without a functioning restaurant is in my opinion a B&B. We had to go out and in the immediate neighbourhood there were a Pizza place, a Dönner and a snackbar that were open. Not exactly what we had hoped for. We chose the pizza place and I must say that is was a notch above the average place. This hotel is great if you need that little piece of quietness and enjoy a gastronomic delight. I stay here on business sometimes when in the area and needing to entertain customers as the food is to die for. Rooms are very comfortable, surroundings are beautiful, but most of all the evening dinner is out of this world. The Steak with truffles and the sauce......that sauce it will haunt me forever.

Second stay at this hotel . Staff amazing and warm they go the extra mile to accommodate our early departure or late return . The elevator is very small so for travelers that bring a lot of luggage it's not ideal. Rooms modern and nice. Good beds. Restaurant convenient but not probably worth the money . Food above average . Good location beautiful garden-sitting area. Nice cozy feel to the place. Super staff!

The hotel is fine, rooms are nice and people are friendly but very "commercially" oriented. You have the feeling they want all of the money in your pocket. For example for the breakfast, you pay 29 EUR which is overpriced for what you get. You want to rent bikes, no problem 17.5 EUR per day, even if you only want to use them 3 hours... They insisted several times to take the dinner at their restaurant. But there again prices are too high for what you get (e.g. house wine 38 EUR!). We found the restaurant no value for money at all and old school service. Despite the nice setting, we left with mixed feelings... And that's enough not to return again.

Stayed at this hotel on business for 4 days. Staff are very friendly and so helpful. The room was cleaned everyday and the hotel was immaculately presented on the inside. don't be fooled by the outside it really isn't a good advertisement. The breakfast was incredible and caters for all tastes.

I chose this hotel solely on its convenient location for my work. However, I was pleased to find a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Mardaga has a sort of rustic feel to it. If I'd had more time I would have taken a walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside. The restaurant it's definitely worth eating at. Although it's not the cheapest, you'll not be disappointed by the menu. I kept it simple and chose the "beef burger" . It turned out to be the tastiest I've ever tried! The breakfast is expensive, so make sure you're good and hungry if you want value for money. I will definitely stay again if I return to this region.

we booked the gastronomic stay through vlaanderenvakantieland.be at 125 eur pp per night (incl diner and breakfast) and found this very good value. Hospitality in this hotel is exceptional: all members of the staff are friendly and ready to help at any time. The cuisine is very good and the young female chef took the time to meet her customers and get feedback: appreciated! the choice of wines was also very good. The location of the hotel is perfect, at the border of the National park and at the start of some nice walks (3-5-12km). reco for romantic weekends or weekends with (adult) friends.
