"We are so glad we chose the Nishiyama Ryokan."

We are so glad we chose the Nishiyama Ryokan. Everything was wonderful. Our room was spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the whole experience: the tea ceremony, games in the lounge, the Japanese breakfast, using the bath every evening. Most notable was the personalized service. Everyone was friendly and helpful with navigation instructions and arranging taxi pickup.

"Traditional, tranquil, warm and cozy stay for our young family."

Traditional, cozy, friendly atmosphere. The staff embraced our two rambunctious boys. It was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto. We wished we had more time to spend there!

"Wonderful stay"

Wonderful stay. The service, location and ryokan were perfect. We had the most delicious breakfast at the ryokan and the tea ceremony was one the highlights of our trip. There was a free walking tour set up by the ryokan so would advise to do this!

"Nice service but not worth the price"

Service was good. Staff very friendly. Just not worth what we paid. We got the "Ryokan experience". Sleeping on a mattress on the floor was ok at best (a bit hard sleeping on the side, and hard to get up from). No where to really sit (floor chair was not comfortable). I hate to say it but I was wishing we stayed at the Hilton. We stayed at some 5star hotels on the trip - all of them were better than this. Again, not terrible - just not worth the price. And don't waste your money on the breakfast - it was nice but not at all worth it.

"It was a great stay. I will be back again."

Great location. Nice lobby. Fantastic staff. Great breakfast.

The temperature of the hot tub was not hot enough for me.
