Hotel La Consigne

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was perfect as a bace for our visits to the cote fleurie . Very reasonable price, clean somewhat small rooms but situated opposite the railway station. Almost all car rental agencies are situated in the same street. The owner/manager was polite, helpful and kind and assisted us with planning our trip. I can highly recommend this hotel!

I didn't stay in the hotel, but was in the cafe on 3 occasions during my 2 day visit in Normandy. The waiters are very friendly and helpful, and a few of them speak great English. Excellent meals as well

Great little hotel to stop at between trains, staff were exceptionally helpful from early checking to directions. Close to the William the Conquer castle, very modern city as all the old buildings were destroyed during WW2

Nice hotel - great location. Close to Eiffel Tower and restaurants.

Opposite the Caen rail station and the central city tram stop. Attached restaurant and café good value. No lift.

The owner was very, very nice. He runs a little cafe with free light breakfast as well. Very basic, sort of Spartan accommodations. Right across the street from the train station, which was convenient, but I didn't factor in the noise, which can't be helped. If you're on a budget for a short stay, an option to consider.

We needed a place to stay for a few days while in the area. This was the perfect place. This hotel was right across the street from the train station. The rooms we small and there is no elevator. The main entrance is also the counter to the cafe, so they give you a side door key to access the stairs to the rooms if the cafe is closed. Lots of food choices within easy walking distance. We walked into town from here and also caught the train to Bayeux for our Normandy tour. One major issue we had were the locks to the rooms. You needed your room key to lock the door from both sides. We ended up leaving the key in the door, while we were in the room. Didn't want to be running around looking for the key to get out our room in an emergency.

Easy to find - directly across train station. Good base to explore some Normandy beaches (but Bayeax would be better for Omaha Beach). Friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Surprisingly quiet at night considering all the train and tram activity outside my window. I liked it here. But I had wifi issues. Kept losing the signal even in the lobby. Kind staff tried to help me, but both my laptop and phone struggled to stay on line. Maybe it was a temporary issue with their supplier, i don't know. But both my phone & laptop have been working fine in Paris and Avignon, so it wasn't my equipment.

The La Consigne is conveniently situated in a small strip mall across from the rail station. Car rental agencies and a small convenience store at the same location were an added plus. Our room was quite, clean and comfortable. Scheduling did not allow for dining, but the hotel restaurant appeared to be a favorite with locals. Will have to try on our next visit!
