"Overnight stay"

Stopped in here for a one night stopover enroute to Marloth Park, selected due to high reviews score. A secure spot. Sue and Belinda went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed, from catering to a (sort of) vegetarian, to extra blankets for a nippy night. Whilst the building is an historical one I feel the interior could do with a makeover - the main dining/social/pub area is quite cluttered with a strange mix of decor that does not appear to relate to either South Africa, Shamrock Arms as a name, nor the railway history of both the town and the building. Considering how cold it was on the night we stayed I was disappointed that none of the fireplaces were lit to add to the atmosphere. Also disappointed that given South Africa's dire state of electricity supply, the rooms had electric blankets and aircon/heating units. Personally I think some updated bedding (think scrumptious duvets and hot water bottles) would have been a better investment. Plus the towels we had, although they looked great, turned out to have holes in them.

"A welcoming lodge where you are made to feel at home"

The lodge has an olde world charm that reminds one of bygone days. The hosts were so welcoming and made us feel at home immediately. Hugely enjoyed the sundowners with Terry

"Excellent last stop before our return flight from Johannesburg"

Sue & Belinda are warm-hearted hosts, we had an absolut friendly Welcome and stay with them. They offered delicious food and our room war well equipped, for example with electric blankets in the bed, Coffee and tea accessories and a well filled minibar. Their friend and local guide Terry showed us amazing views in the beautiful surrounding of Waterval Boven on a short walk of about 90 minutes, such as impressive rock formations on the edge of a steep gorge, a waterfall and spectacular views over and over again.
