Very clean and comfortable cabin, basic but all necessities catered for. Quiet location and very friendly and accommodating host and staff

Edward the manager is really helpful and a nice guy. The lodges are quite old but good value for money.

Not near the beach, you will need some form of transport to get around.

Great little cabins tucked away from the main road. Close to a very good cafe. Basically at a crossroads to go up either side of the island.

Location was secluded and tranquil. Very modest and humble accommodation for our low budget. Māmā Memory was very accommodating to us and came out all hours of the night to sort us out and give us some tips for our holiday. Staff keep grounds very tidy and clean, rubbish was sorted and recycled (very eco friendly!) I love the plans for updating the grounds and look forward to watching these dreams come to fruition. I’ve stayed at Gina’s quite a few times, mainly because of the cheap price. It’s exactly what a bunch of fishermen need. We don’t need fancy stuff — just a place to sleep and somewhere to have a cold drink on the porch in the evening. The lodges have plenty of space, a good veranda, and a nice garden around the property. The staff are always friendly and easy to deal with.

I’ve been coming to Gina’s since 2013, and honestly, not much has changed apart from a bit of paint here and there. Feels like back in the day, the lodges were in better condition. Now it’s pretty outdated, with plenty of dust and some mould in the cupboards. The appliances have definitely seen better days, and there are mice/rat/cockroach issues—we saw them daily. A ceiling fan would make a huge difference. Years ago, we’d get fresh fruit on arrival, and the room was cleaned every couple of days. This time, we had one set of towels for 10 days. The roosters are next level here, so earplugs are a must, and insect repellent and coils are 100% necessary. That said, it still works fine for a bunch of fishing mates, but I wouldn’t bring the family.

We really enjoyed the garden and the availability of tropical fruits for our usage; we also liked the central location and the proximity to the best restaurant of the island: Avatea Cafe. We appreciated that the grandson collected us at the airport and shown us a few points of interest while driving to the accommodation.

The place was really dirty, and for the first time ever, we had to buy cleaning liquid to clean a holiday accommodation. There were lots of large cockroaches, especially in the bathroom, because of holes in the walls. The oven/stove didn't work and was replaced (which was done by the grandson of the owner, thankfully). We also didn't appreciate the presence of a "property volunteer" (that's how he called himself) in the accommodation next to ours, who was watching what we were doing all the time. We didn't like to see workers coming in the morning to replace mosquito nets on the windows, exactly the morning we had decided to chill out a bit. Finally, it is important to note that the property is full of roosters, singing all the time, even at night. If you have a light sleep, that could become an issue.
