Hotel Terrantai

Terrantai lodge is a gorgeous and very unique boutique hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. We were very warmly welcomed by Christian who gave us a little tour of the labyrinthine walkways and the overall layout. The rooms are very comfortable with a luxuriously large bed. They’re well designed to keep cool even when the sun’s at its hottest. The breakfast was the loveliest we’ve had in the 10 places we’ve stayed in South America, and the staff in the breakfast area are lovely. The pool is very nice with comfortable (though heavy) sun-loungers. Every afternoon tea and refreshments are served and available to all guests, this is then followed by a generous wine tasting with delicious nibbles which was such a lovely touch and really brought guests together in a convivial atmosphere. Meeting and chatting with fellow guests over wine was such a lovely prelude to going out for dinner. The hotel also has a pretty extensive library and guests are free to leave and take books. Overall we had a really great stay and the only thing that would make it better is if the reception desk staff were a bit more resourceful/responsive. On the two occasions we had fairly simple questions or requests (eg the most difficult request was that I asked if someone from the hotel could possibly pop out 1 block/30 secs walk to collect our laundry as our excursion was running late and the laundrette was closing and would be closed the following day before we left). Despite explaining the situation our requests were met with “I don’t know” or “that’s not a service we offer” and with no attempt to help or expression of empathy. I totally get it’s a small place and they don’t have capacity for a full concierge service, but we had a real need and the solution was simple, but the man I spoke to seemed to have an “I only do what’s in my job description” work ethic. This being said, I would gladly recommend Terrantai Lodge as a great place to stay and would happily stay again.

Dommage que, pour un établissement où le service est au top et dont le tarif reste tout de même assez élevé, les serviettes soient facturées pour la visite des lagunes. Il aurait sans doute été préférable de prévoir une caution ou d’appliquer une pénalité uniquement si les serviettes ne sont pas rendues ou restituées en mauvais état.

The room is perfect for a couple. It's clean, spacious, comfortable, and quiet. Its location is great, too. Downtown San Pedro de Atacama is full of cafés, restaurants, and shops that are within walking distance. It's easy to stroll around. The 24/7 reception is also great. Franklin and Christian were super attentive and friendly. They welcomed us and gave us a tour of the hotel. The hotel is beautiful, with stunning décor, architecture, and Atacameño heritage. Our room was very clean, too. Housekeeping changed the towels and made the bed daily. I would highly recommend it! Breakfast was good, though as is often the case in hotels, there wasn't much vegan selection. Other than that, I have no complaints.

We were here for four nights and enjoyed every minute. Our trip was extremely busy with tours that were scheduled early morning and late evening, so we had all sorts of needs but they anticipated everything - snacks were always available, and there was an afternoon tea and evening wine tasting that made everything fun. The breakfasts were made to order, with fresh juices and fantastic coffee and many options, and when we had an early start, there was a continental breakfast available for us as well. We also appreciated the availability of water and the water bottles too! The staff was incredible - attentive and friendly, but in no way overbearing. Frank and especially Franklin went the extra mile, but every interaction with every single staff member was pleasant - it was evident that they treat their staff with respect. I would absolutely recommend!
