The Berkeley Guesthouse

The property was generally very well kept, aside from the two things. It was a lovely welcoming environment and whilst I didn't need anything, I got the impression that I would have been helped in any way I could. The location is great.

The shower head did not attach to the stand correctly and the room door kept knocking throughout the night and woke me several times

There was no hot water in the shower,when we complained to the lady at the reception she said it's not her responsibility, and she also explicitly stated that it's not the responsibility of the hotel either. She offered us (only the shower room) of another room which also had a broken shower. This was very humiliating where she was waiting for us to finish, for her to take the Key. So basically whenever we want to shower we'll have to ask for the lady's permission. Not to mention her shouting in the middle of the night while there were other residents which is also very disrespectful and unprofessional. Also By 2 am there was a lot of noise in the building as well

I told the property at the time of booking (around a week or two in advance) that we would be arriving after the official check in window (which closes at 7pm). I received no information from the property about how to check in after hours, nor did they indicate that there were any special steps that we would need to take. We therefore assumed that the arrival time we had stated at the time of booking would be fine. When we arrived at the property that evening we discovered that there was no reception and no way to contact the manager - there was just a locked door facing on to the street. I sent a number of messages to the property via Booking.com and left two voicemails on the number provided online. We received no response and were unable to get into the property. We therefore had to book another hotel last minute or else we'd have been stuck in Eastbourne for the night with no bed. I have still to this day never received a single word of response from the property - they have not responded to any of my messages in Booking.com to apologise or explain the situation, and have ignored the voicemails that we left when trying to get in to the property. I have obviously requested a refund, and have received no response to that request either. Utterly baffling behaviour from a property owner. I would suggest avoiding at all costs.

Molt bona ubicació i la recepcionista molt amable. Llit còmode i els coixins també. S'agraeix que tinguin habitacions individuals.

L'habitació no tenia finestra que es pugués obrir per ventilar i feia una olor rara. La funda dels coixins feia olor desagradable. Habitació molt petita.

Au dernier étage , chambre spacieuse mais douche avec peu de pression et pas d’eau chaude.

Location Very close to the seafront

Water pressure wasn’t high enough Ants in the bed

Clean , comfortable, near to beach.

Comfortable beds - fresh clean linen and towels. Clean room

No breakfast available, despite having booked it as an optional extra to our ‘room only’ tariff, and despite the Berkeley having confirmed that by email. No explanation given - curtly told to take it up with booking.com. Extremely hot and stuffy room - no ventilation at all until the kind housekeeper helped us prop a window open slightly with the waste-paper bin! Other windows appeared to be painted shut. Very abrupt and unhelpful manager - did not feel like valued guests but more like an unwelcome inconvenience to her day.
