Great location for the ferry. Hayley & John are very helpful. They run a tight ship. Very professional and experienced hosts

The home vibe that the place has. It felt like coming home, cosy and comfortable. The owners are very friendly and take the time to talk with you and give you recommendations. The beach is less than a 2 min walk and the town center less than 10. I would definitely recommend!

We chose Black Sheep Lodge based on its proximity to the ferry but would choose it in future because it is spotlessly clean and comfortable and we received such a warm welcome from the hosts, Hayley and John

I loved my room at the top of the Lidge with a sunset view to the mountains and a wee skylight in the bathroom. The room was lovely and continental breakfast was fabulous. The staff are considerate and friendly! I highly recommend this place!

The only thing I would like is loose leaf tea but that wasn’t available in any hotel I stayed in the UK.

After checking in,I messaged the host asking if I could have a late checkout until noon since my train was in the afternoon. I mentioned that if they could accommodate this, I would be very grateful and would happily leave a good review. If not, storing my luggage would be fine too — no pressure either way. The host never replied. When I asked in person the next day, She accused me of “blackmail” — three times — and even asked “Do you understand?” At the time, I didn’t fully understand what “blackmail” meant, so I actually tried to explain it as a cultural misunderstanding and even apologized to the host. It was only after asking others that I realized what a serious accusation “blackmail” truly is — and I was completely shocked. I later asked people across Holyhead, Llandudno, Liverpool, Manchester, and London about this. Every single person — British, Australian, hosts,hotel staffs and travellers alike — said asking for a late checkout is entirely normal, and that a guest leaving a grateful review is something hosts genuinely appreciate. No one considered it blackmail. The host also said She would have cancelled my booking had they known I wanted a late checkout. For a remote location charging £60/night — comparable to or more expensive than London — this attitude is unreasonable and deeply hurtful. I can’t help but wonder: would you have spoken to me this way if I weren’t a solo Asian female traveller? Would you have said the same thing if I were a white or local British traveller? This was by far the worst accommodation experience of my entire UK trip. Every person I told — hotel staff, other hosts, fellow travellers — reacted with disbelief and said this behaviour was werid,rude,ridiculous, incomprehensible

Well equipped room on second floor. Very comfortable and pleasant. Well situated for town and the promenade and short drive to the car ferry. I enjoyed my stay.
