"It was a lovely calm stay , staff was kind and helpful but prices for the rooms are high for its value."

Location and ambiance

Carpets could be more cleaner and could be a bit more generous in giving water and biscuits in room.

"Overall extremely impressed but with a couple of niggles."

8.0

The building was full of history with various references to its past. My room was very clean. All hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The grounds gardens etc were great to walk round and are in great condition.

I was surprised that I had to pay for parking considering the cost of the rooms. Unfortunately the staff in the restaurant did not listen to the drinks order and when requesting a glass of house wine they left the bottle on the table and added the full bottle on the initial bill. This was rectified. My guest was unfortunately allocated a room that backed onto the area reserved for wedding parties. There was quite alot of noise and he was moved to another room. I would suggest that any staying guests attached to Wedding parties could be located in that area.

"Wonderful and historic departure from a typical hotel!"

8.0

History, history, history! Fascinating and impressive. Our room had great historic furnishings, including a confessional as a closet door and bathroom door, and a four poster bed.

The parking took a while to figure out, and it would be better to have it complimentary for hotel guests, and at first it wasn't clear we could drive back within the complex to drop off and pick up bags at the separate building where our room was. The property also needs some investment in renovating some run-down parts of the hotel, but it's understandable this is hard to do in this very old and sprawling facility--and it didn't detract from our experience.

Set in the grounds of the country park

Had to pay £12 parking and there was a loud banging for most of the night, presumably near the laundry room.
