Hraunsnef Countryhotel

The hotel has a lot of character being a working farm and in a very rural area.

Easy in and out, very convenient to R1. Easily accomdated our change of plans for a need for a very late check in. Did not get to enjoy the breakfast.

We had a lovely stay here. Our room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. We stayed here as we were heading south on the Ring Road to set ourselves up for a relatively short drive for an early morning Víðgelmir Cave tour in the area. Especially given the more limited choices for lodging in the area, Hraunsnef provided a very nice stay. The restaurant was very good, and the meat on their menu is sourced from their farm. Their breakfast buffet was substantial and provided a slightly varied selection from the other places we had stayed during our trip.

The accommodations were much better than we expected. Very modern, clean, and comfortable. In rural Iceland, we rarely expected this nice of a room. They were very friendly at check in as well.

Not for those looking for a boutique motel or a chain hotel. This was truly a working farm, complete with dogs (very friendly) following you to your room, sheep wandering around near the rooms, pig pens next to the parking lot, etc. A very unique experience and well done, especially the on-site restaurant, featuring everything from the farm. We had dinner and breakfast and they were both very good. The room was a bit cramped but we'd been on the road for 10 days and had a good system for managing our three pieces of luggage. Shortly after checking in a dog began barking outside our second story room. He was trying to get a loose ram (picture provided) away from the hotel rooms. He wasn't too successful as the ram wandered up to the walkway to our rooms but the dog came down to our door to ensure we didn't have an unpleasant encounter. Definitely a highlight of the visit. The views from the room were great as we managed to see the sun in an area that reportedly had seen rain for 20 straight days. They offer an outdoor hot tub but it was too cold. The parking wasn't the greatest but we had a good spot on the upper level. We only had one more night in Iceland after this hotel and the drive back to Reykjavik was relatively easy. We had to get back for a Puffin tour at 2 and we still took in a nearby waterfall (Glanni), as well as Hraunfosser, Barnafoss, a quick stop in Reykholt to see Snorrastofa, and then back to Reykjavik through the tunnel under Hvalfjordur.

Lovely room on a small working farm. Bathrobes in room and hot tubs on premises. Lovely restaurant too. Fun to walk about and see the animals. Also well located to drive to tourist locations. Would definitely stay there again.

Hotel location is very strategic for aurora hunting. 1 minute drive from the hotel is the car park with complete dark skies. Felt grateful for the recommendation by the staff as I finally see the aurora here! Breakfast is really awesome! Love the egg with bacon's and bread pudding. This hotel will give you a very homey feel at the farm. 强烈推荐

Lovely family run restaurant and hotel (and farm). Excellent food and service and comfortable rooms. Couldn't ask for more. :)

Located north of town, this facility is an excellent opportunity for a good nights sleep in a cozy facility with a very friendly staff set in a quiet country atmosphere.
