"Great place for a stopover"

10.0

This hotel is situated in the middle of a residential area with nothing around it so it's really only for a stopover. Bedrooms were beautifully decorated, the food served in the restaurant was excellent quality and the reception staff were just so lovely and friendly. We liked it here.

"Very comfortable and Exceptional Service!!"

10.0

We had an unscheduled stop at Calama on our bus ride from San Pedro de Atacama to Arica. The roads closed due to mining protests and the bus just sort of dropped us off in Calama. It was midnight and we had two small children. Then the bathrooms at the bus stations closed. We were in a tight spot. My husband vaguely remembered the name of a hotel there and I am so glad he did. After the insanity of the bus station, Diego de Almagro was an oasis of calm, cleanliness and comfort. The most amazing part was the front desk who went above and beyond to get us on the next bus to Arica so that we could continue our South American trip. We are so grateful to that hotel and their staff.

"Nice place for a stopover"

8.0

I was in Calama for business trip and I had this hotel booked for a few nights. rooms are very comfortable, very clean and well acomodated however beds are kind of hard and A/C a little bit too noisy for me. Bathrooms have good size and shower works great, can have a good rest. Service wasn´t very friendly so don´t expect too much. Breakfast is very good, not too many options but enough to decide whether you want scrambled eggs with jam or mixed fruit salad and/or pastries (buffet line). Hotel reastaurant is less than average, need to improve. It is located about 15 minutes walking time from downtown Calama. I will use it again no problem.

"Hopeless service. Do not waste your time"

4.0

Other reviewers correctly brand this hotel as somewhat tired or dated. While that is true, in itself that wouldn't normally bother me. I am however extremely annoyed with the manager and staff, who have been singularly uncommunicative and unhelpful during my business-oriented stay. They made errors on our booking, failed to confirm arrangements for conference lunches (and so charged us for meals we didn't require), promised to fix a computer-projector connection and then failed to even send a technician...the list goes on. Do not patronise this hotel, they do not deserve your custom.

"Better than the others..."

6.0

This Diego de Almagro is far cleaner, nicer, friendlier, etc. than the other Diego de Almagros I was exposed to (for instance, DO NOT stay at the "airport" one in Santiago). Chile is not, in general terms, a very cutomer service-oriented country. In fact, most places, the service is downright rotten (as was the case at the restaurant of this hotel). But the initial service we got at the front desk was quite nice (not so nice on the check-out end, but by this point I had begun to expect as much). The important thing, for me, was that the room was actually very clean and it was a pleasant and restful night (even though, as I found out later, the people in every room adjacent to mine were 20-something semi-pro futbol players!). The breakfast was about what you would come to expect, after being in Chile for a few days, but on the nicer end. And overall, it seemed the best place to stay in Calama...

"MODERN BUT RATHER DATED"

6.0

A reasonably modern but rather dated hotel. Adequate if you have to stay in Calama overnight enroute to another destination. Wi-fi/tv/minibar in room. Standard Chilean breakfast.

"Tired hotel"

6.0

We felt that perhaps this hotel had seen better days and was a bit overpriced for what it was. Our room was large with very noisy, but effective air-conditioning. There were stains on the shower curtain, sheets and blankets and the bath mat was frayed with threads hanging off it. The breakfast was adequate but the orange juice was over-sweetened and the coffee was instant. As this hotel is part of a chain of hotels we expected something a bit better – however, it was adequate for our needs.
