A smoker will have a different opinion to mine. The bed covers and bathroom were smelly. At 2am I had difficulty to breathe. I went to my car to take the parfum to spray on the bed, when I returned to the room the key couldn’t open and no one was at the reception. I ended up sleeping in the lounge on the couch until 4am when the receptionist (an aged man in the late 60s or early 70s) came down. He was unmannered, very rude and unfit for hospitality business.

Good location for my needs

It was in poor disrepair and many broken items. Breakfast was of poor standard with very limited choice. Ripped wallpaper, black mould in the windows, stains on the floor and walls, broken draws toilet seat bath hand rail, areas not cleaned with large build up of dust. Very very disappointing would recommend no one use this hotel.

The bed was comfortable and clean. The room has two comfortable arm chairs. The wifi was reasonably good and free.

We stayed in room 201 on the upper floor. It was relatively quiet in the room with little outside noise filtering through from outside. During our entire stay, one night, we saw one staff member who gave us the impression that we were an inconvenience to him. The room is advertised on booking.com as inclusive of parking but all guests are required to pay a £3 fee per 24 hours. The room (deluxe king) is a good size but looks old and in need of TLC. The bathroom tiles were mouldy around the bath edge, there is rusty fittings to the loo roll holder and the door had not been cleaned with goodness knows what marking it. There was only one bath towel supplied. When I asked at reception for another towel the male staff member said he would get one in about 30 minutes. After 45 minutes and no sign of him I went back to reception to find the staff member relaxing in the armchair on his mobile phone. On asking where the extra towel was he said he couldn’t find one and said he had to grab one from the laundry. It wasn’t a bath towel when he handed me the towel but a hand towel and a bath mat. The shower head was pathetic and took about 5 minutes to get warmish water to the head and water flow was terrible. The toilet cistern has a 30cm crack running from side to front. There was no coffee or milk available in the beverage making area. Someone had left a can of carpet freshener on the drawer unit (to hide what smell)? Our booking indicated that breakfast is advertised as included in our room rate. No one welcomed us to the breakfast room. It was only a continental breakfast. No tables were laid. No napkins available. The orange juice was sour. The fruit on offer didn’t look fresh. There was an ample supply of pastries, bread was present to make toast however the only thing available to put on my toast was butter and apricot jam or raspberry jam.

Very good for the prices, often being around £40-£50 a night. Beds always very comfy, staff are excellent, has a convenient vending machine, has an old school look to it like ageing but it grows on you.
