"Awful Hotel"

1.0

The grounds were pretty.

The hotel had been closed and has housed asylum seekers. The drive is blocked by a fallen tree, placed there by a local farmer to deter guests. It has only just reopened and is not as advertised. It's 1 stars being generous, extremely run down and dirty. Only one member of staff. ( night porter) We were one of only 2 bookings and the place looked abandoned. No facilities ( no gym, no kitchen, no bar) Booked a King suite was given a normal double. Worst thing was the keyfob for our room, was a master. We accidentally opened the room next to ours with it as well as our own. I did not feel safe and had I been alone would not have stayed.I have raised this with the hotel and booking.com. No hot water .

"Over priced for what was on offer."

7.0

The building and gardens and surroundings are beautiful.

Not having a breakfast included in the £158 a night price was disappointing. The room was large but nothing special. No fridge, small sachets of tea and coffee. You can hear the howling of the wind through the corridors all night.

"It could be a very exquisite hotel if it was done properly"

3.0

Although we knew that the restaurant and bar were closed. the rest of the hotel was very run down. It was very expensive for what it was.

it was expensive. our key opened every room in the hotel. No hot water and not the cleanest room.

"an intriguing night at the majestic chateau"

8.0

The hotel had just reopened to the public. We arrived at 10pm and the castle was illuminated, it was quite a spectacle. Our room was very spacious and clean, with a king size bed. We were immediately intrigued by the history of the place and the member of staff was very happy to tell us its story. The castle has huge windows and a beautiful wooden staircase. We had a little tour of the refurbished part of the premises the next morning and we ventured in the vast garden with lovely mature trees. We also saw a deer.

At the time of our stay, food was not available. The bar and the restaurant had not reopened to the public. We were informed by a member of staff in advance and it was not a problem for us.
