"disappointing hotel"

4.0

My stay in Damu Hotel was disappointing to say the least. Although located on Bole road, it is on the end where there are few cafes and restaurants to go to within walking distance. Internet stopped working after my first night and wasn't fixed for the remainder of my stay (another 5 days) despite promises that it would be working again the next day. The room could do with an upgrade as well - the bed was very hard and the bedside light didn't work. Finally, the complementary breakfast was the poorest I have come across in a long time. The coffee and fresh orange juice were fine but the toast fell apart just when looking at it, the croissants were hard as rock and the scrambled eggs were so dry it made me wonder whether they were cooked the night before rather than that morning. I wouldn't stay at Damu Hotel again.

The room facilities were adequate. The room safe failed to operate, but I did not inform the reception staff, or the housekeeping service, because I had no absolute need to use it. The hotel is further from the centre than I had expected, but within easy reach by taxi, when the roads are open. All the hotel staff were very helpful, and eager to serve.

In general, the staff was kind... the reception, porter, waiters, even the chef! the receptionists were helpful: they were fast, polite and well understanding. Everyday - at the breakfast time from 7 - 10 AM I found the hotel manager salute me and asked about the quality of the food and if I have any comment. the hotel is near to coffee shop and a night club, which make from 8 to 11 a musical NOISE! the hotel also - as hotels.com mentioned - is closed to malls, local markets (24h super market) and restaurants (especially Indian)... if you like walking, you have to wear good shoes: Addis Ababa has up-down streets. I didn't found a high quality scaling City Map at the hotel: hope to provide in the future. But they gave to me the hotel card in local language to show it to the taxi driver in case I got lost. the room was clean and well arranged. they provide a teeth brush and one-use slipper in the bathroom, I had found hot water for shower anytime. it was a TV with 9 channels: 2 local, 7 in English: news, movies, clips.

"Never again"

Great location. Cold showers only. Comfy bed. Good food. Aside from the woman at the reception desk, nice staff. No internet or working TV in room. 1 out of 4 lights worked.

The staff were helpful. The hotel is located mid way between the airport and the city centre. Only a short taxi ride downtown. Only downside was that the beds were extremely hard.

Everything was fine in the hotel. There were big renovations on the main street, which was inconvenient. I was not able to get into my email during the three days I was there.

"DAMU addis ababa"

6.0

It's all about expectations! For ethiopia it'sprobably a good hotel, well worn at the edges very friendly staff. a lot of business people there who seemed quiet happy, if you're a visiting tourist and have expectations of European standards you'll be very disappointed. The thing that did concern me were having booked a free shuttle to the airport for :5:00 with a wake up call at 4:30- neither happened. Going downstairs at 4:55 all the staff were asleep- it could have be grim, missing the plane.I chose the hotel as it had a visa payment. At check out visa machine didn't work and could only get a small amount of cash from the ATM around the corner. The beds were really hard!
