"Awful hotel"

2.0

This hotel is in very bad shape. The room smelled bad. The beach was tiny and cluttered with garbage and red ants. The footpath from the hotel to the beach was cluttered with garbage and dead branches and red ants. The swimming pool was dirty. The food wasn't very good. The hotel is far away from any town so you're stuck eating the hotel food (some people might like this I guess) which was not bad but not very diverse. Very bad experience.

"RAYONG GETAWAY"

4.0

This used to be a 4 star hotel 40 years ago but has not been very well maintained and is not more than 2 star now. The smell in the room was terrible and helped slightly when we covered the drains in the bathroom. Was not a pleasant stay.

"Exceptional Hotel in Off location"

8.0

Stunnimg views from an architectural master piece, what more can you wish for? We were surprised to find the hotel almost empty of guests, despite its qualities and very resonable price. The only explanation we could think of was the location that arguably is not the most central. We came for a short stay between a busy tour of SEA and a family reunion and thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility. The beach is easaly accessable form the hotel via a steep passage with several stairs. While the beach and ocean was beautiful I must admit we never actualy tried going for a swim,

"Aus dem Programm nehmen"

4.0

Facilities: Little run down; Cleanliness: Spotless; The staff don't speak much English so wise to have at least basic Thai language.

"70ies luxury"

4.0

The Hin Say Nam Hotel has a onderful view and is located on a moutain top with a view to the ocean. The style brings memories of luxury holidays in the 80ies and unfortunately that was probably also the last decade where anything was done to make the hotel look nice. Most of the other guests were local families and for some reason it felt a bit like we were intruding... All in all: Fantastic location and view in a hotel that looks like it needs a complete make over. However, it was fairly cheap...

It's not in samet island, as i thought it would be. It was quiet place, and only thai customers. No one speaks english there, not even in reception.

"Resort going downhill"

4.0

We stayed in this hotel in October 2007 (not in Dec.2010). The location is very nice. The hotel sits on top of a rocky hill with a superb view of the Gulf of Thailand. It's part of a large development with private houses and several condominiums buildings. The development must have been one of the top resorts in the 60 and 70's. The modern architecture was quite advanced in those days (see pictures) and the development deserves to be visited for its landscaping (roads and paths are pretty steep so you need to be in shape). This place must have been booming during the Vietnam war because of its proximity to Pattaya and the Sattahip naval base. The hotel was almost empty except for half-a-dozen thai customers. This resort had seen better days and showed a total lack of maintenance, tropical humid climate not helping. I am surprised that this place is still in business in 2011. Beside the fantastic view, a decent food and a nice staff who tried his best, the accommodations were very poor (decor, furniture, equipment and cleanliness were not worth the cheap price paid). As we were driving from Bangkok to Cambodia, we found that the eastern coast is overall disappointing in terms of hospitality. It's a low budget clientele: the area is mostly favored by young thais. It can't be compared with the western side of the Gulf of Thailand from Hua Hin to Phuket. One can imagine what the Shangri-La Hotel and Resort could do with such a piece of real estate...
