"Very relaxing to close my Surabaya trip."

10.0

I love the receptions of the hotel. The lush green Balinese feel. The rooms were spacious and very clean. And the breakfast is sumptuous ! love the wide variety of Indonesian local food and dessert. The hotel reception staffs were very very helpful when i needed direction advise to travel inside the city.

All is good. If i need to comment probably would be the room lightings need to be added more. overall all is good.

"BUMI HOTEL RESORT SURABAYA"

4.0

21.03.26 At first glance, this hotel ticks all the boxes: 1.Rooms are spacious 2.It has several swimming pools se in very ornate and well kept gardens 3.The food is local cuisine but very nice 4.It has a well-equipped gym (but no signs show where it is), steam rooms, internal hot and cold pools off the gym. Yet Westerners avoid Bumi like the plague and here's why: 1.housekeeping is terrible 2.restaurant staff move your food to another table during Eid (without either informing you your table it is booked by large groups celebrating and they, of course, are a group who are celebrating.) No issue there. It would be OK if I was told lots of tables were booked but to simply move everything while you are at one of the food reception areas, without informing nor asking, I thought, was very bad practice. There is a Club Lounge. I always prefer to book a room with Executive /Club Lounge Access. The first morning of my arrival I met with the Duty Manager and her Assistant. I asked to change to a Club Room with Lounge access. I also asked if they serve alcohol. The manager said it did. I was very happy and asked to see a range of club rooms and suites. A different member of staff was assigned to show me around. On our way, I requested to see the Club Lounge. When we arrived it was locked. I was then informed that, by order of the government, it is closed during Ramadan and Eid and MAY open "in a few weeks." (I was told by the duty manager it serves alcohol but, because it was locked, (which I was not told this by the duty manager) I could not confirm anything. Housekeeping is terrible. Apart from emptying the refuse basket, staff did not clean my room, the floorcwas not hoovered, no 2 bottles of complimentary water were left, no teabigs were left, no bath towels were left - just two small hand towels. I reported all thiis to reception. The missing items were brought to the room by two giggling housekeeping staff members. Sorry, but I didn't get the joke. Likewise when I complained about food service it was met with laughter. (I thought CUBA MELIA had bad service but this was much much worse. And no restaurant manager on duty to report it to!) Someone told me that, despite the positive quality issues I mention above, Westerners just give this hotel "a polite miss." There were 2 other Westerners, in total, staying at Bumi. (When I enquired why there were virtually no Westerners I was told "because it is Eid"...and "yes Westerners do stay here. " The majority of guests were local citizens, in traditional Indonesian or Islamic attire, or visibly from the Arab world - with burkas, traditional Islamic dress, and, of course, some wearing western attire. Some, likely Chinese or Taiwanese or perhaps South Korean or Japanese, were of course attired different. For the few dollars extra, next time I will stay in a hotel more attuned to my requirements (including a Club Lounge with alcohol) than here, despite it's obvious qualities. Oh yes, because most guests are Muslim, none of the 4 external swiming pools are used, neither are the 3 tennis courts, neither is the Gym nor Sauna nor internal hot and cold pools. The facilities are, of course used by Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese, South Korean and other Asia non-Muslims since there are no problems regarding usage they might be uncomfortable about. One last thing I reported a spoon missing as cutlery from my room at arrival-in case I was suspected of petty pilfering. PatE

This hotel blew us away, it was so comfortable and had a bath! The breakfast was incredible, such a huge range of options including great vegetarian options. The gardens and interior of the hotel were grand and beautiful, and the staff made us feel very welcome and taken care of
