"Excellent"

8.0

Great location. Minimal room, but that was what I was looking for. Finding the front desk unattended at times raised some questions about security - with the room keys hanging in plain sight.

"Staying in Old Valparaiso"

8.0

A very pleasant boutique hotel on a steep hill close to the port. My room was upgraded to a double, but would have been cramped for two people with luggage. Bedrooms and common rooms are tastefully decorated and have a distinct European flavor. Because of winter there were no other guests, but I expect the place to be noisy when fully booked even though there is no TV in the bedroom. The service is very attentive and helpful. The location is within walking distance of good restaurants on Almirante Montt, and just a couple of blocks downhill from the hotel is the art museum of Valparaiso which surprises. Walking the hills can be arduous but is worth the effort to get a feel of old Valparaiso. And with the free street map from the tourist office one even has a chance to find the hotel again.

"Overall is good."

8.0

Bed was comfy but there is no heater!!! The floor is very cold. I asked for an extra blanket. Service was good and staffs are nice and friendly. I missed breakfast so count explain about it. The area is okay. I guess if you walk early on the street or at night have to be careful. The wifi works great if compare to other places in SouthAmerica.

"Tried to charge me twice"

4.0

This hotel is basic, but ok. Breakfast was good, but room was cold with a barely adequate heater in Winter, but not a major problem. Young lady on reception appeared to be new and a little unsure of how to deal with check in, so refused my offer to pay on arrival, which I have done at previous hotels in Chile. A few hours later I was leaving to go out so paid a man, who appeared to be the manager, in cash, with the young lady present. Chatted briefly and they kindly helped me with directions. The next morning another man asked me for payment, whilst the same young lady was in attendance. My payment of the last night didn't appear to have been on the system, and more unbelievably the young lady didn't seem to remember the transaction taking place, even though I am the only English person I have seen at the place and there can have been no more than 10 people staying there in total! I politely reminded the young lady that she had been there, but she appeared not to remember even when I recounted the conversation about directions. The man eventually accepted what I was saying, but no apology was forthcoming, I don't think I was believed at all, and made to feel like a thief. There is plenty of choice of hotel in Valparaiso, especially in this very pleasant area, so I would recommend trying another hotel, but pay when you check out so as to avoid any confusion.

"Inexpensive friendly hotel in great area"

8.0

I had two nights in Valparaiso before boarding a ship. I wanted inexpensive accommodations in a nice area of the city. The hotel in the front had a shabby carpet and rundown coach--not good on curb appeal. But once inside, it was charming. I had a single room--so small that there was barely enough room to place my suitcase on its side. (I'm sure the non-single rooms are larger). But the room was absolutely clean, the bed was comfortable, and the room was quiet. The shower was fine, but very small--the shower curtain hugged my body when I showered. But I was only in the room to sleep and shower, so it was fine. There was a nice little breakfast with delicious rolls, bowl of fruit, scrambled egg, and instant coffee (ugh). The 24 hour staff was very friendly and accommodating.

"Wonderful room 305 in a great location!"

8.0

Anybody taking room 305 will love the hotel. The room is big (even though the bathroom is tiny) and has a great view. Full harbor over Museo de Belas Artes, probably one of th best in the city. It is also possible to have breakfast in the room. The hotel also arranged laundry, very uncomplicated. Easy to reach from the bus station, bus to El Plan and ascensor.

"Still a lot of work."

6.0

We stayed for two days for the new year's eve. All the other hotels were full and we chose. We paid twice the normal price. There was a change of management a year ago and the new owners are trying their best to lift this place. Positives: the location is fantastic. The staff are very helpful. The rooms are individually decorated. The wifi is fast and works all the time. The new year's eve cocktail cost 40,000 pesos and includes canapés, wine and cake and a glass of champagne while you watch the fireworks display from the terrace. The view is great, you see everything. The cocktail was well organised and the food was really good. Negatives: the rooms are small, the shower head was broken and water would leak all over the floor, there's no TV in the room. We left towels on the floor to be changed but they were simply folded and put back on. There's no hanger at all in the bathroom, to hang towel or clothes. The breakfast is a small bowl of fruit, a small muffin, bread and scrambled egg (plus juice and tea/coffee). It is served individually by the staff. Nice touch but even when not busy, ten minutes for a coffee and some bread is much. A buffet would be much easier, we were still hungry at the end; it would be simple and cheap to have basic things like cereals, ham and cheese, maybe a cake. This is a real let off. Overall, if this was the standard price, I could recommend it. For the new year, at twice the price, this is overpriced.

"Absolutely adorable. "

10.0

A highly decorated, quirky hillside hotel with charming and helpful staff, particularly front desk musicologist Felipe. Beautifully situated, Our room had a fabulous view and comfortable bed, with the only markdown for a very small bathroom (great shower, though). I miss it already.

"Excellent value for money and location!"

10.0

Amazing location in Valparaisio, perfect and very central to everything especially the amazing colourful streets. Staff are very helpfull from the girl at the front desk to the cleaner. Rooms are comfy, clean and basic. Shower and bed were great. Water views was a extra bonus. A very cheap and pleasing option, best value for money in the area by far. We went to a "better" more expensive hotel for our last night after spending two nights there and imediatly wanted to come back as the new hotel was expensive and rubbish. The continental breakfast is also perfect. Woul;d stay again for sure.
