"Prima Wochenende in toller Lage"

8.0

"Broken dreams of peasant girl with arachnophobia"

3.0

• a masterclass in luxury segregation — know your place in this glamorous mansion: servants’ quarters only • housekeeping apparently runs a spider-friendly co-living program where arachnids stay rent-free • less “boutique luxury hotel,” more “Victorian orphanage meets abandoned manor” • perfect destination for anyone seeking dust, dread, and immersive attic-horror aesthetics • management’s approach to customer care is best summarized as “thank you for your feedback, now please pay in full” • if cobwebs counted as interior design, this room would deserve five stars

There is the main part of the hotel — clean, shiny, dripping with gold and chandeliers… and then there is the section reserved for peasants. Back doors, narrow corridors with cheap carpeting, and oil-painted walls straight out of a ’90s Eastern European playbook. My room? An attic barely large enough for a Victorian maid beginning her first day of service in the grand estate. Arriving tired after a long trip, I wasn’t asking for luxury — just a clean room and a comfortable bed for the night. What I didn’t expect was a high, sloping ceiling covered in a cobweb empire so extensive it could probably qualify for its own postal code. One glance upward and I was done. I would genuinely rather sleep on the street than step into the spiders’ territory. A quick call to reception revealed the hotel was fully booked, so changing rooms was impossible. Still, they promised to “handle the situation.” I expected something resembling a special-forces operation; instead, I got one exhausted staff member armed with a broom too short, a ladder too unstable, and courage that clearly hadn’t survived probation. Watching him sweat and tremble beneath that ceiling completely erased my remaining hope for a peaceful night. In exchange, I developed a stuffed nose — apparently the spiders’ penthouse suite hadn’t been dusted in quite some time. Predictably, the spiders won. I fled. I checked out faster than you can say “arachnophobia,” only to discover the hotel’s refund policy essentially translates to: “No takesies backsies.” After a long debate, I was graciously permitted to pay only for the first night, while the remaining two nights were refunded. Apparently, however, this unsolicited immersive wildlife experience was considered non-refundable. By that point I was exhausted, my heart still pounding from stress, and my eyes swollen from dust allergy. I had no energy left to argue — I simply wanted to leave.
