The Moorings

Great stay, comfortable room. Handy to everything.

Location was great, parking was a bit tricky as we were clearly the last people to check in that day!

The Moorings has a lot going for it. The location is excellent, right in town and just steps to the lake, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. We had booked one of the studios. It had amazing views of the lake and mountains, was very clean and had a kitchenette and a small balcony which was a great place to sit in the mornings with our coffee/tea. Our room had AC which we really appreciated on warm days. The staff were very nice and the room was very quiet despite being right in downtown. However, we felt like it wasn't a very good value for the price. We usually stay next door at the Lakeside Apartments. Those units are much bigger (huge luxury 1 BR apartments with full kitchens, in-unit washer/dryers, and large balconies/patios) for almost the same price: it's $375 NZD for a studio at the Moorings and $379 NZD for a 1BR apartment on the pool level (not as good a view) at Lakeside. Also, our room at the Moorings had a few quirks. The door to the adjoining room couldn't be locked so we ended up moving a desk in front of it. There's also some obvious wear & tear (marks in the bathroom and on the walls) and quirks (the bathroom sink is almost at knee level). In addition, they were not offering daily service to the rooms due to a staffing shortage. There is free parking but the lot was pretty cramped and took some careful navigating to get in and out of. Overall, the Moorings is a great option, just not at the price that we paid.

When booking the Moorings I prioritised the lake view over other options that may have been cheaper and/or more spacious. The lake and mountain view from the room and balcony was certainly worth any premium, despite the road in the foreground, although a small table on the balcony permitting outdoor meals would have enhanced the experience. The studio room was smaller than other hotel apartments we booked on our trip but was perfectly adequate and to a good standard (albeit not luxurious). The location is very central in Wanaka which is certainly an advantage.

Great location and nice clean room. Helpful staff with suggestions on what to do for the day. Laundry facility was very helpful too.

The moorings was close to town and we could walk everywhere. The room was very nice, and the private outside area made it really lovely. The customer service was brilliant, Dan really went above and beyond.

Great apartment with view of the lake. Quiet.

First impression upon check-in, greeting lacks warmth, appeared to be untrained in hospitality - or may be just can’t be bothered kind of attitude. Check out staff was someone else with laissez fair attitude. Staff were not rude. Property was spacious with steep stairs to upper level. Bathroom upstairs, shower closet/corner can only fit a child. Both bathrooms have heated tiles and water pressure was very good. There were children or a child next door who frequently run/stomp creating noise through common wall, even at night. Sheets appeared to be clean but I found bugs in my bed the morning after. Very good amenities for group/families. There is a common coin-operated laundry room. Good location, close to lake, restaurants and shops.
