The 25 km of very bad dust road

We stayed in the private family villa and were hosted by Olivia and our chef Soso. They made our stay just the most incredible experience. Soso’s talent in the kitchen kept us so well fed and his culinary skills are second to none. Olivia made sure that our every need was catered to. The villa is in the most incredible location with wildlife grazing in the garden of an evening - zebra, wilderbeast, impala. Elephants visited several times a day with their keepers and the giraffes were a joy to watch. Would recommend to anyone.

Positives of the lodge are that it is very peaceful and the staff were generally lovely - Sheridan was outstanding. The food was really good and they catered to our difficult dietary requirements (vegetarian and one gluten free).

The road to the lodge is really difficult - not only a very long gravel road but steep slopes and almost unusable if it rains - we got stuck twice! It’s only 25km so looks near to other places but takes well over an hour. We wouldn’t have booked it had we have known. WiFi didn’t work for us in the rooms. On the game drive on site we saw no animals - other than the 3 elephants who I suspect are kept in too small a space. We were charged 1700zar for a lamp breakage - we did break it but easily done with the bed setup and the wires which are a trip hazard. Would have been sensible to have less breakable and less expensive bedside lamps. My major criticism is that the lodges are hard to access. They are down paths that are tricky to get to when it is dark. My elderly mother really struggled. Also we were told that our teenage kids would be in a room near us. They weren’t and we need to ensure they could come to us\we could go to them at night if need be so we had to sleep one adult, one kid per room. Again, wouldn’t have booked had we have known. We tried to checkout after one night as the setup wasn’t ideal for us. Understandably they wouldn’t allow us to cancel on the day but overall not a good experience.

The food, the views, the staff are lovely, the pool is great for relaxing

The road to the lodge is difficult on parts and you definitely should have a SUV type car to reach the lodge

It’s a beautiful lodge. At the staff is very polite and friendly. The peace and quiet was amazing. Ohhh and the have very friendly elephants 🥰

There is over 20km of gravel road to access the lodge but when I was leaving they accompanied me so that I don’t get stuck on the gravel because it had been raining.

Die Unterkunft ist wunderschön in der Natur gelegen. Der Aufenthaltsraum und die Anlage sind sehr gut gepflegt. Toll waren vor allem die Außendusche und der Kamin im Apartment, der während des Abendessens angezündet wurde.

Der Weg zur Unterkunft ist tatsächlich nur mit einem SUV adäquat zu bewältigen.

The elephant walk and the staff were top notch. Very quiet resort in a very remote location. Lodge was beautiful and staff were very friendly and attentive. Loved getting the opportunity to visit the school next door.

Road access to the resort was very bumpy and long, google maps direction send us to an impassable road which resulted in a long day of travel. Double check the directions with Barefoot Addo before making the drive.

Prachtige locatie en goede service. Lodge erg mooi en de olifant wandeling is zeker een van de highlights van onze vakantie. Weg er naartoe is uitdagend, maar zeker de moeite waard.
