DoubleTree by Hilton Queenstown

We had an excellent points redemption stay at this property that exceeded our expectations. For context, we traveled with two large suitcases for a several-week trip Down Under. This shaped our view of room sizes and bathroom counter space. Also, we stayed just after a major holiday and believe occupancy was fairly low. Nevertheless, every aspect of our stay was simply outstanding. Things we liked: - A very nice room. Pretty sure we were upgraded without the front desk making a big thing about it, to a partial lake view. There are a few rooms on the Double Tree side of the property that likely have better views, yet we’re not complaining. We booked a basic mountain view and got better. - A special welcome amenity. Beyond the Double Tree warm cookies (hard to beat that), there was a 375ml local wine waiting, plus a fruit plate, plus chocolate bars, and nice note from the manager. Hilton Gold or better also get two free drinks at the Hilton bar across the street. - Breakfast buffet (free to Hilton Gold or better)! It’s advertised as “continental breakfast”, yet it is a full breakfast with hot items, and modest international offerings (some Asian, some European). - We booked all of this on a 40k Hilton points. At that price range, it’s an excellent redemption, and far superior to our other HHonors redemption in New Zealand that is also reviewed. Other notes: - The overall property includes both a Hilton and a Double Tree. Hilton occupies the direct lakefront building, and Double Tree is across the street. You can use facilities at either property. - There were times the front desk function was consolidated to the Hilton. - Our room was fairly large yet laid out in a manner that it was cozy with two large suitcases. There was adequate counter space in the bathroom. - Parking is $20 NZD/day. - It’s obvious from the map, yet the property is not in the heart of Queenstown (about 8 km away). At peak times, there’s quite a bit of traffic that builds up in downtown, making for a slow commute or expensive Uber. This can be avoided by simply taking the water taxi from the hotel to downtown. Water taxi leaves directly from the Hilton dock once an hour. As we opened with, Double Tree exceeded our expectations. This is an excellent value for Queenstown.

It is very frustrating when menus when you get to the restaurant are different than what is on the website or internet search

The location is great, the view and surroundings are amazing. The room was lovely.

Wow! Radinka, Cydea, Hannah, Anna, and Kris know how to make someone feel welcome and special! Thank you to Radinka for the surprise gift of wine and chocolate in our hotel room for our 40th anniversary. Cydia, Hannah and Anna provided exceptional treats and well made flat whites for breakfast. Wonderful conversation as well. Kris went above and beyond in making sure our fridge was fixed in a timely manner and fantastic customer service with additional homemade warm chocolate cookies. We will be returning to NZ and this Queenstown hotel is at the top of our list. Thank y'all ladies. We'll done!

Your staff member Mona was excellent helping us as we first came into the hotel. Then the breakfast assortment was a surprise of variety and good eating.

The glass barn door for the toilet is a poor design choice, all sounds were easy to hear in the sitting area with the lake view I found this odd and amusing, good thing it wasn't a first date!
