This hotel offers stunning view on Old Town at Sirakusa’s Ortiga island. Minareto also has one the best designed and kept green areas. But … Rooms aren’t modern and it is clearly visible that renovation was cut off from the investment plans. With room rate around 400 EUR/night, the hotel offers free bottle of water in the room, just for the first day… But the worst experience was connected with hotel’s taxi boat. We decided to buy this offer to return from dinner at Sirakusa back to the hotel. Unfortunately weather conditions worsened quickly and such a transfer should be canceled by skipper. But he decided to embark almost 20 hotel’s guest, despite stronger and stronger wind. As long as we were within city walls, everything seemed to be OK. But last part of the transfer is on a short distance at open sea and the nightmare started. Big waves, no life jackets, no radio connection neither with port authority nor the hotel. We really were lucky to reach the hotel, but it has turned out that hotel dock … doesn’t exist. This is just one step made in a rocky part of the beach, with no option to dock the boat. So we were running of of the boat with skipper leaving steering wheel and engine working , while running to the front of the boat trying to help people to disembark. One BIG NIGHTMARE ! This was clear that profit of the hotel owner is much ahead of guest safety and satisfaction. We were not overly satisfied with our stay. While the property is certainly impressive, it feels more like a production or event space rather than a peaceful escape. The location is in a remote area with limited access to nearby restaurants making your only Option for meals the overpriced hotel menu. The water taxi takes you to Ortigia where you can choose more but they charge 25 euro per person (a cost that the hotel should provide as a complimentary service in a 5 star hotel). While the breakfast was very impressive with fresh local ingredients, we were upset by our sheets having multiple stains upon arrival, strong cleaning odors, and no water being delivered to our room during turn down service. The hotel charges you for water and squeezes out everything they can get. We also requested towels while we were in the jacuzzi and they never arrived. We would recommend that you stay on the island of Ortigia instead.
