"Beautiful place with amazing service"

10.0

I stayed here for two nights with my wife during March. Overall experience was fabulous. Hotel has a daily free shuttle service from the Nagasaki JR Station which you can utilize if you book in advance. Its about a two hour scenic journey from the Nagasaki city to the hotel. The room was very spacious with a fantastic view of the so called 'hell' in the national park. The hotel is right next to the national park which connects into the various walking trails. The visitor information center and the bus to go to the rope-way is within short walking distance. Breakfast was of good quality and we were given the option of choosing either a local Japanese breakfast or an American breakfast. There was no lunch service at the hotel. Dinner was served (not sure if available everyday) and you will have to order in advance. There are few staff members who understand English so language will not be an issue. The staff also helped us in pointing out nearby restaurants to go for lunch and dinner. On one occasion, on a very stormy night, the staff even drove us to a nearby restaurant for dinner. The hotel on-sen is probably one of the main attractions in the hotel. On top of the public bath area, the hotel has a private/family bath which you can reserve at the front desk. Highly recommended place. I would say the most attractive feature of the hotel is probably the top notch service from the staff!

"Everything good but needs some renovations desperately"

8.0

Miyazaki Ryokan is an old but pretty classic hot spring hotel in Unzen which is the first National Park in Japan. Unlike Yufuin, Unzen is a not so well-known hot spring town with a lot less tourists. We love the quiet small town atmosphere here! The hotel staff didn't speak much English but the service was still top-notch. 100% authentic Japanese hospitality! Its foods and hot spring quality were great too. The only problem was its old spa facilities and dated room interiors. The management should seriously consider conducting some descent renovations. The hotel is located in the center of Unzen National Park, providing an easy access to many high quality trails with spectacular views over the "Unzen Jigoku". Overall, it's a beautiful place well worth a visit!

"Very traditional ryokan service with excellent "omotenashi" spirit"

10.0

My wife and I traveled with another couple from Seattle for a week in northern Kyushu Island of Japan. This ryokan had traditional status and was by all means the best among all the accommodations we stayed during this trip. The staff members were all friendly and helpful. We had a private waiter in our room during dinner and breakfast. He was very pleasant and friendly. Its onsen was very clean and beautiful. The scenery looking from our room was beautiful with full autumnal colors at its best. This is the ryokan we would like to visit again.

This is a very beautiful, modern hotel with beautiful Japanese garden plus sulfur hot spring next to the hotel. The scenery was absolutely amazing. The service was superb. Good food, friendly staff, comfortable ta-ta-mi bed. The best indoor and outdoor Unzen, It makes an idea hotel for family, couple to relax and enjoyed the natural.

"Relaxing with spectacular scenery"

8.0

This Ryokan is probably a little older than others I've stayed in, but I really enjoyed it - especially the scenery around the town of Unzen. We checked in here as a small retreat mid-holiday and were pleasantly surprised that there was a coach service. Unzen is a long way from anywhere but if you are catching the shinkansen, stop at Isahaya station before Nagasaki as this is the best stop, although they will pick you up from Nagasaki Station as well. There's a really cool private hot spring in between the men's and women's baths that you can book as a couple, so make sure to enquire about that if you are on a romantic getaway. Also please dedicate some time to looking around the town of Unzen as there is a really great character to it. Make sure to take your winter clothes though! We were there in November and it was hats and scarves for us!
