Disappointing Stay at La Chaumière Mountain Lodge What a disappointment La Chaumière Mountain Lodge turned out to be. I arrived at a very dated and tired-looking lodge, despite its beautiful view from the front rooms. My room had a narrow balcony that opened directly onto the main road between Les Houches and Chamonix, which is extremely busy. To make matters worse, a train line runs right beside the road, so the constant noise was far from the peaceful “mountain lodge” experience I expected. The photos advertising this hotel were misleading — especially the ones showing the rear of the property. From the front, the view of Mont Blanc is indeed spectacular, but it’s a shame the balcony is so small and the traffic passes directly below. I had an end room, which also overlooked the small six-space car park beside us. The hotel, including the rooms, feels very dated. A small, box-like shower room had been added, accessed by a step up, but it offered little space or charm. If there had been somewhere nearby to eat, I wouldn’t have chosen to have breakfast there on the second morning. It’s about a fifteen-minute walk into Chamonix, and since the restaurant is closed during the day and evening, you have no option but to travel there for meals. While dining in Chamonix itself is pleasant, it’s simply inconvenient for guests. Sadly, the staff seemed as tired as the building. The only bright spot was the evening receptionist, who was sweet and helpful. Overall, I would never choose to stay here again — ever.

Établissement très bien situé. Le parking est parfait et permet de laisser la voiture en sécurité. La chambre était très agréable et propre. Le personnel très attentionné y compris avec notre chien. Vraiment un sans faute ou l’on a hâte de revenir.
