Friendly hosts, both of the two-legged and the four-legged variety, who cooked up delicious fare for breakfast and dinner. Special shout-out to Sally and her ball.

I stayed in The Garden Room which was tucked away and private with a small patio area. The area is stunning and quiet, with easy access to walks and nature. The homemade pizza on the front stoep was fantastic! Thanks for a lovely stay.

"I did not want to stay there after the dog-incident, but it was a non-refundable booking."

5.0

I enjoyed the breakfasts. The room was clean.

Upon my check in, the owner's dog bit me on my arm. It is tender and bruised to this day (almost a week later). I did not like the way it was handled. I was made to feel like it wasn't that bad. Instead of apologizing profusely, the owners explained their dog is protective, upon which I expressed concern for guests and children, upon which I was told the dog won't bite children. My response was, "OK, so, only adults then?" The accommodation is advertised as a venue with wifi (for a travelling working person this is important). The wifi in my room was non-existent. I was warned it is weak, but that the rest of the property has suitable wifi. This meant I needed to work at the main house - which was fine, except that I was slightly apprehensive to walk there at any time after I was told the dog is protective of that area. A travelling working person should not be booked into a room that has is a) no cellphone reception OR b) internet reception. The TV only had a few channels, and had a clicking sound (error) which made it impossible to watch. With no cellphone reception, internet, or a working TV, down-time in the room was not on standard in terms of their so-called 4-star rating AND the price charged for the accommodation. I have to mention that it was cheaper to stay in town (Wildernes), with much better facilities. I chose this place because it had safe parking. Make no mistake, I think the owners are nice enough - I just think they are reckless with guests safety with a dog that has a temperamental nature, and that their internet service is not up to scratch - and needs to be rectified - OR it should not be advertised as suitable for people who need internet.

Location and friendly hosts

Apartment very dark, and seating uncomfortable. The sitting out area was in a carpark with uncomfortable seats

The ideal place to stay on the Garden Route as approximately halfway. However more importantly The Trading Place exudes a beautiful calm rustic charm, exemplifed by the host. The most delicious breakfast awaits you at a time of your choce, the bread is homemade. Highly recommended is their preordered pizza in the evening. The host is coincidentally the guide for the river trips, so has exceptional knowledge on the nature of the area. If all this attracts you if you are considering being based in the Wilderness area I would urge you to stay here.

I arrived after a long tiring 5 hr drive and immediately relaxed with the warm friendly obliging welcome. Mike the owner was very helpful and patient about my enquiries for the area. His wife is a tremendous cook and equally amenable..Highly recommended is the offer of a pizza in the evening totally delicious. The lodging has utmost rustic charm. I really enjoyed my stay and the owners (and their lovely pets) were welcoming and friendly - even swapping rooms for me because I sadly needed to work while there. The room and bed was comfortable and quiet and I enjoyed having breakfasts on the patio in the morning. The property is close to some beautiful walking trails, a quick drive to the beach and to the Wilderness restaurants, although I enjoyed a lovely dinner made by the owners and preferred the home cooked meal to the one I had in town :)
