Whale View Manor Guesthouse

We had a sea view room and it was fabulous. A very nicely designed room with a super comfortable bed and plenty of space. And the beach opposite the hotel was beautiful. The breakfast was great too and the host (and the dog) were very really friendly.

Die Aussicht auf das Meer ist wirklich wunderschön und war definitiv das Highlight unseres Aufenthalts. Auch das Frühstück war nett zubereitet.

Leider entspricht die Unterkunft insgesamt nicht dem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Die Zimmer wirken deutlich in die Jahre gekommen und renovierungsbedürftig, insbesondere der Teppichboden hat keinen guten Eindruck gemacht. Die Einrichtung ist eher schlicht und nicht besonders einladend. Auch der Empfang war enttäuschend: Die Dame an der Rezeption wirkte kühl und wenig interessiert, sodass wir uns bei der Ankunft eher wie eine Störung fühlten. Zudem mussten wir etwas warten, bis uns überhaupt geöffnet wurde, und es wurden keine Informationen zur Umgebung oder zu Aktivitäten gegeben. Insgesamt wirkte die Unterkunft etwas leer und wenig herzlich – schade, denn mit etwas mehr Engagement könnte man deutlich mehr daraus machen.

The location is really great! Easy to get to and close to many nice tourist areas. The little beach across the street was awesome! And the views were spectacular.. The breakfast selection was quite varied and nice and presentation was nicely done. We really appreciated the ample time slot for breakfast, it wasn’t rushed and you didn’t have to prebook. The staff was were very friendly and accommodating. The honesty bar is a brilliant feature. We liked the convenience of the in-house spa. We had to catch an extremely early morning flight and the night attendant helped us check out on time.

The building and furnishings were nice but definitely need some refreshing. We were grateful for onsite secure parking but it was a little difficult to maneuver because of the layout. We had a few issues during our stay: the tv didn’t work when we arrived, was in process of getting a new system that was up and running the next day. We were without hot water one day and were told it would be ready in 30 minutes, but didn’t get restored until the next morning. When it came time to settle the bill, there was a misunderstanding about the spa treatment prices, so I was glad I had kept my original communication to verify. But all of these issues were handled satisfactorily and with apologies. We had an issue with a baboon coming in our room while we were in our room, but were able to get it out without any damage.

Position is amazing. Right across the road from a beautiful beach.

Towels need replacing. Rough as sand paper. Pillows are very uncomfortable.

pour une vue sur la mer, c'est une vue sur la mer ! Même si la route est entre deux, c'est calme. Simon's town est à quelques km et dispose de quelques restaurants, Karl Bay un peu plus au nord vaut le détour aussi. Si vous n'avez pas bu d'alcool le soir avant de revenir, vous pouvez vous rattraper au salon avec le bar à disposition, aux prix raisonnables. La plage juste en face est très mignonne mais il ne faut pas être frileux pour se baigner (on ne s'est pas baignés).

L'entretien général du bâtiment devient discutable : du papier peint qui se décolle, une baignoire qui met un temps fou à se vider, des coins de la chambre parfois très poussiéreux.

Das finden des Hauses war sehr schwierig, mehrmals daran vorbei gefahren. Das Haus ist wunderschön leider ist es in die Jahre gekommen und die Renovierungen sind mangelhaft. Es roch nach Feuchtigkeit, muffig und das Zimmer war wirklichsten seinen Preis nicht wert. Bei Anruf ging keiner ans Telefon. Hier muss wirklich etwas passieren, will man dies gute Stück auf lange Sicht erhalten. Schade

Ocean views and walks around.

The first hotel in my life, and especially one with 4 stars, the kitchen was filthy, filled with cockroaches, and of course it smelled of fat. Inadmissible insectes. So the owner started explaining biology to me. And if I didn't like it, she suggested, I could leave the hotel.
