Hotel The Place

beautiful pool, great breakfast. room was huge (not necessarily a good thing with the small wall mount A/C). but a pretty far walk to the cute town of Santa Teresa and the beach. and the walk was along a busy street with no sidewalk or paved shoulder. biggest concern was getting to hotel. had no warning of washed out road conditions along 160 and saw other tourists who encountered same problem and had to turn around an take 2 hour longer route.

Had a great time at The Place. Great pool, close to the beach, rooms are simple but clean and comfy, staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Really nice place, close to everything. Staff speak French, Spanish and English. Rooms are clean and beautiful.

Let's look on the bright side first ... great coffee, immaculate pool, walking distance to the beach, and definitely affordable! But what do you really want in a hotel? For us, the beds were too hard, it wasn't a comfortable night's sleep. The bed skirt was dirty, it looked like it hadn't been replaced in years. Thank god the sheets were decent. The shower was burning hot one minute and freezing the next. The drain was clogged so the water pooled up while you were showering. Overall, if you have a family and you're looking for something affordable… this is your place. But if you're looking for something on the nicer side, look elsewhere!

We first arrived at midnight since we got lost but luckily the security guard was present to let us in. From the first morning we realized it was worth it. Beautiful establishment with a great pool. Staff always around and helpful. A small walk to Santa Taresa, not too long that it's out of the way but long enough that it made it quiet. Breakfast overpriced. For the same price go to the bakery down the street. Donaldo

I saw the pictures and ads, and thought I had a fantastic bargain, but.. no TV, no headboard, no dresser, no fridge. The king was two singles pushed together, and the walk to the beach is a little further than they let on. A very dusty road ensures everything in the pretty court yard is dusty, The breakfast is not included, but ok. Don't drink the water (but they will sell you some). if you want to swim in the pretty pool, bring your own towels! If you have heavy luggage, note there are course grates and gravel sections. Otherwise it was good. I didn't get the bargain I thought but perhaps a fair price for a basic unit in a unique part of the world.

A great location in Malpais. A killer pool! However, the bungalow they gave us had poor wireless connectivity (we were told it was in the middle of two access points), no dresser (had to keep things in our suitcases on the floor and zipped up due to ants and bugs), no shampoo, no washcloth (my wife hated that), no headboard for the bed (very difficult to read in bed without one). All small items that didn't ruin our stay, but would have made it that much nicer and they are not major to provide. The people running it were nice enough. They have a fine breakfast. We just thought that for the money we spent it was not really worth it since other hotels very close and comparable were less expensive. It wasn't exactly as nice as the booking website led us to believe. We were just a little disappointed since we were there for 4 nights. Nothing that ruined our stay but not up to our expectations.

Me and two friends stayed at Hotel the Place for two nights. Beforehand we didn't actually know much about the hotel and chose it because of the pictures and price. It far exceeded our expectations! As mentioned the prices are very good, they have a restaurant were they serve food of high quality, the chef really knows what he is doing, the pool and surroundings are amazingly beautiful, the rooms are clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished. Last but not least, the personnel is really helpful and forthcoming. I'd recommend staying at this hotel to anybody. It's really the place to be.

we loved this hotel and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The hotel is very well maintained, the swimming pool is perfect to chill-out, the atmosphere is friendly and stylish. The food is great and very affordable, a beautiful mix of Belgium-French and exotic cuisine. The location is perfect, just 2 minutes away to the town center with the Playa Carmen surf spot and 15 minutes to the beautiful Playa Hermosa. The staff was always available and helpful. Futhermore the location of Malpais has managed to keep its local touch, the nature is still wild, protected and beautiful.
