I booked this so called 4 star hotel. My booking was non-refundable, but 2 days before my reservation I discovered it's only a 3 star hotel. It says so on the door outside. It's also in a casino. Horrible! I tried to get a refund days before my reservation and checkin, through booking customer service. They said they would ask the hotel, but not even a response from them. I called the hotel to ask, no response. I went to the hotel to get the refund, no response from anyone in charge (who wasn't there). Even some acknowledgement or a simple response or even a partial refund would have made me happy. Avoid this hotel! Horrible staff and it's probably dirty from all the gamblers staying there. Who else would want to stay in a casino? Booking.com should not falsely advertise this place. Bad customer service from booking.com as well.

Good value, clean city centre hotel.

Lacking charm and customer service

Very nice room, top-quality mattress. The location is really good too, right in the centre of Varna. The front desk people were always helpful. Great value. The beach is really nice and the freebie public thermal pool is brilliant - you can hop between the sea and the thermals,which are at about 40C, I''d guess, as you never get cold, even after the sun starts slinking off. The sea park is really nice too, a lovely big green park with lots of trees and paths for walking, jogging or cycling etc. It is great to see it being so well used by the locals. Restaurant recommendation: Staria Chinar Preslav- there are 2 Staria Chinar restaurants in Varna, go to the one NOT on the main drag - it's big and busy. Efbet is actually a betting company (spot the clue!) - they seem to support a lot of Bulgarian football. The ground floor of the hotel is a casino, mostly full of one-armed bandits, as far as I could see. These places are fine if you go in knowing the odds are stacked against you and it's just a bit of fun. That's not how it is for many unfortunate punters though so I'm not a fan of these places. If you go, go for fun, indifferent to the losses. One of the bedside lights didn't work. They tried to fix it in the time we were there but it needed to be replaced. So probably fixed by now (room 32). Was impressed with the service, the problem was not ignored
