Hostal Victoria III

The location is great. It is very clean. Beds are comfortable. Towels are fresh. It is very quiet. The staff was friendly round the clock. Paola was the most helpful. Hot water in the bathroom was always available.

There is a wardrobe but there is not a single hook- no place to hang your towel or your switcher or your hat. It would be nice to have an extra cup in the bathroom to put the toothbrush or the razor. Usually in hostels there is a kitchen with some cutlery and a kettle. None of these is available. One has to ask for the personal belongings of the hostess.

The location was very good. The café downstairs, rollerie, was lovely for breakfast.

One of the staff members, one of the women who was on the desk late in the night began a phone call with her husband (?). She was talking on the phone loudly in the hall and had him on speakerphone!. Also, people coming in late at night had to ring the buzzer downstairs to get in, and then again the doorbell upstairs, which made it difficult to sleep uninterrupted!

Location was great, lovely Mexican restaurant next door, close to Metro.

Walls are super thin, we had people come in late with a baby who screamed for hours and could hear parents talking and then woke to someone throwing up. Only one super long pillow to share which isn't ideal. We had 2 rooms and asked for them to be together as our 14yo daughter was on her own but the rooms were at opposite end of the building. Turned out ok as the building feels very safe.

The hostal is very clean and has daily housekeeping making the bed and changing towels. The location is excellent being a very short walk from Puerta de Sol. Also very close to restaurants and cafes. The street entrance is the door to the building, press the buzzer to be let in, elevator to 4th floor and buzzer to enter hostal. There is 24 hour reception. Room has air conditioning, bed was soft but comfortable with one long double sized pillow, had a safe, cupboard, mini fridge and tv.

We liked this property but a few things to know. The room is small but not as small as some, and you can still access double bed from both sides. The reception team have limited English but enough for basic communication and are friendly. There is a small common area but you are not encouraged to use it, and no tea or coffee making facilities. Reception happy to boil kettle but could not provide a cup for us to use. All rooms are down one long hallway and you will hear other guests arriving and leaving. This is a good room to sleep in after a day exploring the city but not to spend time in. It is an older style building and shows its age in places.
