Essence hotel

Mentally unstable guest screamed the whole afternoon and night. Had to leave at 1:00am and sleep in the airport. Asked for help from the staff early in the day and the said they was handling it and never did anything.

Great location if you’re going to an event at Barclays Center. Also affordable pricing

Great hotel for a quick trip to Brooklyn. Small but exactly what was needed to sleep and refresh while in Brookly

I was not able to stay here overnight and decided to leave early because the whole situation felt unsafe. The place smelled like cigarettes and weed, there was no lock on the door that wasn’t connected to the key card, and at 2pm, down the hall, there was a man that would not stop yelling. It seemed as though his window outside was open and had a trash bag taped over it, and I was not able to get an understandable answer from the front desk as to why he was yelling or if it would stop (it seemed like it wouldn’t).

The staff was friendly and helpful overall, and finally switched us rooms on our final night due to the disruptions from the guest on our floor that they were unable to resolve. Overall, the room/bathroom were clean and the beds were comfortable.

Unfortunately, there is a guest on the 2nd floor that appears to have been inhabiting their room for months (based on reviews found on Google from months ago) that screams loudly and consistently throughout the night and during the day for the brief moments we were there. This made it impossible to sleep, and was also quite frightening to wake up to in the middle of the night. This was clearly a problem the hotel staff was familiar with and apologetic about, but allegedly unable to solve. Unfortunately we didn't see those reviews or other mentions of this guest on booking.com or would have not booked, and I would not recommend others book here if there is a chance of being placed on the 2nd floor. I am sympathetic to the staff because it did seem to be something out of their control (not sure if it is a government program or law preventing anyone from removing the guest) but it is absurd to pay over $200 per night to not get any sleep and not be able to get a refund, discount, or room change until the last night. Additionally, the coffee machine had mold in it rendering it unable to use - this would be an easy fix on the property's end to clean or just not offer coffee machines at all because they were unusable.

The reviews helped to set my expectations- they said "tiny rooms but clean and quiet". They were right. Just enough space to fit a bed, but if you're only staying a night, it works.

A nice location in Brooklyn, the area was safe and relatively quiet. The staff was very friendly, they respected the check in and check out time and every morning we would go downstairs and our breakfast would be ready to go in a grab and go bag (a bagel, an egg sandwich, some yogurt, fruits and cookies). The room was very clean
