Park Hotel

This is hotel from hell! The windows do not close. There is a hairdryer without power outlet, which makes it impossible to use. Why even install it? To tease me? The people working there watched yesterday night a football match so loud that we couldn’t sleep! And even after going myself downstairs and shouting Silence! in Italian didn’t change their behavior! On the contrary! The breakfast is so poor, it’s best to go eat outside! I asked why is there only one black tea? Could they offer fruit tea as well? The very next day they proudly showed me another brand black tea?!? Isn’t that arrogance- I felt as if they were showing me the middle finger. And every time we have to beg for forks... Furthermore, our stay overlapped for two nights in a row with a student group. In the evenings the children made so much noise, it felt as if they are rearranging the furniture and stampeding! I went three times to the reception to complain, but there was no staff to be found!!! The WiFi is a joke - only in the immediate vicinity of the reception quasi available.

The owner of this property is very generous person. The hotel has full-board, half-pension, and only-breakfast options, and the occupants of the hotels are mostly form Italy. That is why the meals served are genuine Italian cuisines. Thus, be prepared to accept the fact that you will live a true Italian lifestyle (when non-stop communications with neighbours means more than having necessary conditions for self-comfort. This is also reflected in communicating in English. The director of the Park Hotel is the only person who speaks perfect English. The rest of the stuff, including receptionist guys, have no command in English at all. Nevertheless, everyone will treat you as a member of their family and will do anything to make your stay comfortable. One more thing for TV-watchers: all channels are Italian channels. No CNN, Euronews, BBC, Sky news, no other language channels. The good thing is, the WiFi is strong and acceptable across the property.

Just returned from a great week at this hotel, stayed with a tour group on half board basis in a large family room with comfy beds a satellite tv (bbc world +Italian ch) and en suite (no fluffy towels but they dry you just the same) at the front of the hotel, on the main via Colombo minutes from the tourist info office, pier and an attractive promenade with shops and bars. Being on the main road some traffic noise etc was heard on saturday night, so light light sleepers may it better to get a side room at weekends. This isn't a modern chain hotel serving international food that could be anywhere, This is a hotel with individual decor, run by a friendly Italian family, who eat the same very tasty Italian food (three courses two choices of each) in the same dining room as their Guests and that's what we, and many others I'm sure, come to Italy for. The value score is a guess, as it was in the tour price, but a bottle of house wine for eight euros sounds good to me. There is access to the free area of the beach (within 5m of waterline) every few hundred metres, the rest is taken up by Bagnos like most Italian beaches.

We stayed here with Mistral holidays. I was really impressed by the room I was given (paid extra - single supplement and was given a twin room!). Air conditioning in the bedrooms, clean towels daily if required. The food was excellent with friendly waiter service. The family also ate with guests so the food had to be up to a certain standard. Ideally situated not far from the promenade. Holiday makers from other parts of Italy stayed here as well as our tour. Popular attractions (Pisa, Lucca, Florence) weren't too far away. Drinks on the terrace (above street level) before our evening meal was a relaxing way to watch the sun go down.
