Hi everyone, I’d like to share some thoughts on my recent stay at La Iguana in Puerto Vallarta. I’ve stayed here five years in a row, so I know the property well and have always appreciated its charm. 🌴 First, I want to acknowledge that this is an older property, and certain things naturally come with that. They can’t change the bones of the building overnight, and it’s only fair to keep that in mind. 🏨✨ I’m always someone who gives credit where it’s due. However, this stay came with several critical misses that future guests should be aware of. After returning year after year, I know what to expect, and these weren’t one-off issues. They felt like a noticeable departure from the standards I’ve experienced in the past. I want to be transparent about that for both management and fellow travelers. 🌟 To be clear, this feedback is for property management only, not for the staff who consistently do their best. Cindy at the front desk was incredible, and the housekeeper who serviced my room during the first six days was fantastic. 🙌 I also have photos and video of the bugs and the barking dogs to support the concerns listed below. 🛠️ Things They Can Control 🐜 Bug Infestation in Kitchens: This is the third different room I’ve stayed in over the last five years, and every single one has had kitchen bug issues. Proper pest control is long overdue. 🚰 Sewer Smell: A strong sewer odor was present throughout the stay and affected comfort daily. 🧺 Housekeeping Issue on Departure Day: A new maid who had not worked the previous six days demanded 200 pesos (about $12 USD) for “extra linen and towel cleaning” and falsely told the front desk that I had asked her to do my laundry. This was not true. I believe she wanted to claim the housekeeping tip I had already given to the housekeeper who actually serviced my room all week. The dishonesty felt unacceptable. 🔄 Booking.com Issue: When I asked about extending my stay, the hotel encouraged me to book outside the

Booking.com platform, which I did. However, they failed to document it properly and later blamed the confusion on their manager leaving. I provided screenshots of our agreement, and their staffing issues are not my responsibility. Frankly, it felt unprofessional. 💲 Rate Change: I had booked the extra day in September at a special discounted rate, and I have a screenshot of them agreeing to honor that rate. When I arrived, they charged me the higher day-of rate instead, costing me about $40 more than expected. 🚪 Privacy Issue: Due to the construction noise, I didn’t hear a knock on the door, and hotel staff entered my room while I was undressed. This was a significant privacy concern. 🏨 Last-Minute Reservation Moves: We had four travelers in four separate units. Just one week before check-in, two of those reservations—booked 3 and 6 months in advance—were forcibly moved to a sister hotel with almost no notice. This caused a lot of unnecessary inconvenience. 💧 Cold Water: Throughout all seven days, the water in my unit (and my friends’ units) never got warm. It was cold morning, afternoon, and night, which was very inconvenient. 🔑 Door Code Issue: On the additional day they accommodated, my door code didn’t work when I returned late at night. I was locked out at 10 p.m. Luckily, someone in the office heard me knocking and let me in, but it was still a stressful situation. 🌐 Things They Cannot Control 🐶 Barking Dogs: Dogs barked throughout the night. While the hotel cannot control neighborhood pets, it did affect rest and sleep quality. 🔨 Nearby Construction: Construction ran from roughly 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., making it hard to relax. This is outside the hotel’s control but still impacted the overall experience. In summary, while there were definitely some positives and the staff tried their best, these issues with management, booking practices, maintenance, and last-minute changes made this stay fall short of what I’ve come to expect over the years.

It was a great location and clean

I read reviews about the noise before I booked, I even prepared by having ear plugs but that was not enough. I ended up changing locations because of the base/vibrations from the music. It’s a great spot if you plan to be out until 4am.

The property itself was very nice , well maintained and clean. The staff were very accommodating and lovely.

Unless you’re going to party til 0300 in the am there is no way you can sleep. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. We landed at the hotel when they were doing some construction so that was painful and unfortunate

The location is excellent. Right next to all the entertainment venues. There is a supermarket 24 hours downstairs. The rooms are very spacious with a kitchen and all the necessary equipment.

The décor is old, but nothing is broken. The only thing that bothered me was that they chose to renovate one of the rooms. There was terrible noise from early morning until very late at night. I felt like I was on a construction site. It was unpleasant to stay in the room and hear the loud noises. When I contacted the manager, he said he was sorry they didn't let me know, but it's really not enough.

It is close to the nightlife. It is easy navigation from hotel to beach or around the town.

There is only ac in the bedrooms. If you do not do well with club music all night this would NOT be a place to stay. There were ants that would come out and get into everything so be sure to secure everything.
