"Extremely comfortable, quiet, central (5 minute walk to theatre and cathedral, 15 to train station)"

9.0

I was travelling alone, having respite from my husband with dementia. I felt safe and more than comfortable. It was a traditional pub with darts and pool tables and big screen sports but I felt comfortable throughout my stay and was treated with courtesy and a smile always. There were 2 open fires and I never felt hurried to leave the comfortable dining room/lounge and twice sat and did some drawing without feeling intimidated. My room was silent at night.

I felt the breakfast was poor. It was a continental breakfast and there was homemade fruit salad and a fresh fruit bowl and a tray with cold meats and square slices of cheese but the pastries were tiny and in short supply. An addition of boiled eggs would have made it more palatable

"We won't be going back"

3.0

The location was good

The beds were uncomfortable you could feel the bed springs. The room had a big damp patch on the wall. There was mould in the bathroom. The room wasn't very clean and was small. The food in the pub was poor quality. The gents toilets in the bar were disgusting.

Helpfulness of staff & their good advice Continental breakfast with plenty of choices

No parking on site, but there’s a long stay car park nearby & it’s easy to unload before parking.

"Not value for money. Poor bed, and continental breakfast which wasn’t clear upon booking"

5.0

Noisy outside the rooms. Table full of staff on a break at 6pm not exactly painting a good picture of the place.

"Delightful team, fresh clean bed and Towels in a generous sized room but breakfast was not the best"

8.0

The Pub/Inn was at one end of the Main street and therefore easy direction and straight walk back to the main bus and Train station, plenty of coffee shops and patisseries along the way after check out. The beds spotlessly clean, room very spacious for a single person, single parent family or two ( easy going adults) . Beds comfortable. nice touch to have a chair and kettle and so on in the room, thank you. thank you for the toiletries in the bathroom , I am not one of 'those' guests so anything I didnt use did get left behind , I didnt help myself to your freebie but lovely touch. Finally, I love love your towels, was sad only staying one night as they were lovely, would love to have made more use of those fluffy towels. Your bar team at night and hospitality staff in the morning were lovely, your young bar team are a credit to you. Real sweethearts.

TV was not programmed and so I could not for the life of me turn it on while in bed relaxing. There is no door stop on the bathroom floor so several times I opened the bathroom door middle of the night and it crashed into the shower door making a loud noise which made me worry about guests upstairs, fortunately the shower is robust so it did not break but I was concerned about the noise and I am pretty sure over time that is likely to damage your shower door. Finally, I have to be honest , at £100 for one night at staying in an Inn that offers a lovely menu in the evening, I would have at least expected a more inclusive and robust breakfast offering. You could provide a warm plug in hostess tray with some fried eggs which with some of your cold meats selection , a dollop of Hollandaise sauce on the counter, a guest could muster up an Eggs Benedict at least. The cold continental offering was nice enough but for those of us who are gluten free, there really wasnt anything other than a small yoghurt and some fresh fruit and some cold meats. Those who could enjoy wheat, the pastries and bread was plentiful. Your Breakfast offer ( for an Inn at that price ) really was the only thing that let it down.
